Hey everyone!

So, 'War of the Rohirrim' is in theaters in parts of the world now. I just saw it and am very curious about your opinions about the movie!

Let's keep it civil! :)

I thought it was an okay tale. More intrigued by the gaming premise. Funny that none of the heroes in the box set make it to the credits. For narrative games, I will buy Lord Thorne and Helm if he comes in armor and on a horse.

I thought the same thing. I don't mind the fact it exists. There's nothing really wrong with it. The source material was treated with some respect, and I really appreciated they left out the "humor" of The Hobbit films, and kept a serious tone.

Negatives for me were the inconsistencies with scale; namely the Watcher effortlessly swallowing a mûmak whole. That sequence was very unnecessary. The Eagle also dramatically varied in size between scenes. When Hera is at its nest, she's smaller than the eagle's beak.

I also disliked the reusing of lines from the OG trilogy, especially the Rohirrim shouting "death" during the charge. It takes away from the significance of the scene in the OG trilogy. Or "This isn't just a rabble of mindless..." being reused, etc. Reminded me alot of the "These bats are bred for a single purpose" line in the Hobbit. I really don't see the point.

In the same vain, the Frealaf vs corrupt advisor arc was just EXACTLY the same as Eomer's. On purpose no doubt, but that to me is not clever writing.

I also wasn't a fan of how they ended up humanizing Helm again by showing his final stand and having him come to his senses. I'd have preferred the deranged griefstricken madman angle. But I see why they did it and I don't hate it either.

Positives were the scene where Helm is standing in the fog and the creepy horn thunders in the background, and the lack of humor, as this tale really didn't need it. Hera was somewhat bland, but not unlikeable, and I was afraid from the trailers that she would be. (Must be trauma from RoP Galadriel... ;) )

All in all it could have been better, but it also could have been ALOT worse. I wouldn't be against seeing more anime LOTR, but also don't need more if they decide against it.

I didn't think it was amazing but I did think it was solid. The watcher scene was a really bad addition but everything else worked. Helm, Haleth and Hama were pretty awesome and Hera wasn't at all like I had expected, I was expecting something like not-Galadriel from rop, so I was pleasantly surprised. 7.5/10 imo, I'll definitely add it to my yearly Middle Earth watch.
