Weather finally cooperated so I could put some primer on the house. I cut out under the window and put the door from the privy on the upper floor, then had to unglue it as I thought it looked better half-way open. Of course with it open I had to add some planking to the sides of the upper floor that were plain and for now, just put a piece of balsa wood as the floor. Just need for Bard's children to be released so they can fight inside.

Cut out the diamond windows and replaced them with square pane panels that I had from some old plastic-corner/window/doors//cardboard-walls models I use to have.

Took the extra seahorse charm I had when I did the barge and added it to the roof-line plus adding another row of shingles.

Cut a groove into the shingles to add the dormer so it fit better.

Now I just need to put in the to be painted queue.

Finally finished my Warriors of Dale, led by the Captain - known as The Captain of the Celduin for his heroic efforts in keeping the Celduin River (also known as the River Running) safe for travelers and commerce between Dale and the Long Lake.

When painting these figures I kept thinking about the scene in the movie the Dirty Dozen where the character played by Donald Sutherland is impersonating a general and is reviewing some troops. After his review he turns to the commanding officer and questions: "Very pretty, But, can they fight?"

Putting them on the barge, I wondered if I should buy the Windlance to mount in the bow to give the barge some extra firepower. :D

Thanks to GreatKhanArtist for pointing out the Dale design in the "Hobbit: Bo5A Chronicles: Art and Design" book. Just took a picture of what is in the book, and printed it on some red paper - still a lot to do but I wanted to get an idea of what the sail should look like.

The house I have just started to paint, did the edging in the same color of the highlights of the barge. So much left to do on the house before I even start to weather it.

Started to think how I want the wharf to look like.

Nice to get some figures off the painting desk but hate thinking of what else I need to do. Ah well, one step at a time.

House looks so cool! I want one!

That banner looks great, how did you get the paper to look so thick/strong?

Draked - the paper was already thicker than normal paper - it is crafting paper from that section in stores like Michaels, Jo-Ann's, or Hobby Lobby in the states. Since the design is centered, I printed two on the paper and after cutting them out, glued them back to back so the design is on both sides - that also made it thicker.

Nothing new, just some pictures. I can thank/blame Karavatis :-D for this, he had me thinking about my Moria goblins.

With the Balrog defeated, the Captain of the Celduin took his company on an expedition to the mines of Moria to see if he could recover some mithril. Inside, he managed to stir up a hornets nest of goblins and cave trolls.

Nice. Nice to see the finished boat too. I finally managed to find a figurehead for mine. Much harder, because we only have Michael's in Canada; they drove all the other craft stores out of the market.

On another note, my Hirst Arts wood house panel molds got here this weekend. I just did the first casting with hydrocal. I'll let you know how they turn out and hopefully do a review when I get enough to do a house.

Nothing like posing your minis to inspire you to do the next project!

GreatKhanArtist - I wish the boat was finished. The paper sail has a mast that is a straw that is just blu-tacked on. I am lucky to live in a metropolitan area that has several different types of hobby/craft/game stores so I don't have to rely totally on the internet to get things.

Looking forward to your work with the new molds.

Switching between projects, I had time to work on my laketown. I was never too happy with the platforms/piers that came with the kit, felt they were too small and narrow, so am making my own.

So far I have done some pieces that I will use as a causeway or piers to the shore or jut off the platform. The taller pieces on the corners will hold lanterns.

Have also done the framework for the platform for the house itself, just need to start putting down the planks.

Never one to make it easy on myself, I am using smaller pieces of bass wood vs popsicle sticks - I just feel the size of the boards are more in scale plus I enjoy doing it! :D

This has turned into the Captain's Compound :) - I wanted to incorporate some of the old LOTR scenery pieces into the project but still wanted to use them elsewhere if I wanted. After casting some bricks to put them on and a hole in the platform for a statue I think it works. I was going to use some Osgiliath bits but they seem too bulky next to the house.

Just when I thought I was done with what I wanted I got the Windlance off of Ebay in a newly listed, buy now deal so had to build an elevated platform for it. Right now I am torn if I want to finish painting this project and go on to what I had planned for my next project or go further on this one. Thinking of buying two more houses to combine into a barracks and another platform for it and of course more piers to connect them. Have to figure out if I am in a plaster of paris mindset or cutting up wood mindset. What I would do with the extra piers, etc that come with the laketown house kits is also holding me back.

Some pictures of what I have done so far.

One question that came to mind as the causeway is defended - can fell wargs swim?
