Hi guys,

I'm wondering what you think the better group to focus a Dwarf army around would be, whether it would be more Dwarf warriors (perhaps 6-8 in a warband) and spread the rest between Iron Guard and Khazad Guard, or if it is better to do the inverse, and center the list on Khazad Guards. Also, how useful do you find the rangers, and how many, if any Vault Warden teams would be recommended.

Thank you

I usually build a core around a lord and his bodyguard band of 6-8 Khazad Guard, a banner, and then some warriors to protect the banner. Using warriors and Iron Guard beyond that to support the main bodies advance. As for rangers and Vault Wardens I don't use them much. The rangers are given a lot of flack for how expensive their gear is but a handful of them with bows is important if you ever bring artillery or if you fight cavalry focused armies, but I'd never take a whole lot of them over warriors. Of Wardens I'd take four teams at most and no less if I take any. Though I've seen some people who have fielded armies of them. Point for point they are on par with Iron Hills dwarves and fight about the same when in formation.

Is that per warband, or do you only use one warband of Khazad Guard? If it's per warband, then I should definitely center each warband around the Khazad Guard?

Just one warband.

Another question, Which two heroes do you take to lead your warbands? Gimli, Dain, or Balin?

I would suggest Gimli and Balin

Although Dain got a nice standfast of 12" D9 and an extra wound, its fight 5 that makes people relutant on taking him. Ok that jump tests its another but people can kinda avoid that.

Now Gimli its a cheaper nastier tanking dwarf with combination attacks in which he can go brute two handed axe or a flurry of attacks with 2 axes, so either choose a metho you wishto fght and he´s gonna be fine. He can also be upgraded to wear elven cloak, which makes enemy shooting and casters to target Gimli, unless the´re extremely close in which normally ain´t a very good idea.

Balin follows more or so Gimli´s idea though a bit squishier but with the Durin´s axe upgrade, he gets quite a bump on his profile killing power, wielding the power of a banner effect on his own with a +1 to wound rolls which can be deadly. Hes also the cheapest of the bulk in which let you field more warriors.
