I recently purchased 9 Mirkwood elves with Glaives.

What are the pros and cons of equipping them with a shield?

Pros:
- +1 defence (to 5) not so squishy
- you either elven blade 1 hand or spear
- shielding you benefit from elven blade special rule, while glaive alone you have to choose either elven blade or spear or alternative can use shielding(but lose the properties of the other choices while doing so)

cons:
- glaive already give em shielding special rule
- glaive can´t be used on 2 handed
- overal 1 pt cheaper

If you equip them with shields you are possibly wasting points for more models you might need for an army that has very expensive heroes.

I played two games yesterday at 650 points with four glaives, none with shields. I never lost one of them. You just have to position them tactically and be careful.

Sure though.....defense 5 looks good on them too. It wont really tilt them a lot better in either direction.

In my eyes theyre used for this:
1-Spear support until no longer needed.
2-Shield to make lines balanced where you want them to be.
3-Go into combats you outnumber opponents to use that elven blade.

Theyre not front liners, but specialists depending on where you use them at the time.
