Here is an Easterling test piece to try out the colour scheme for the rest of the bunch. The model has just basecoats marked down, no shading or highlighting yet.

Image

The main colours here are Burnished Gold and Vallejo's Hexed Lichen, which I think is quite the same as GW's old Liche Purple. I'm trying to see how a dark violet and light yellow go together as opposite colours. I kind of like their combination but I'm not entirely sure about the more reddish Warlock Purple I have used at some parts.

Works for me. Even with the warlock purple, once you have highlights and shading it will fit in well.

That purple is surprisingly good on the easterlings! Looking forward to the finished mini :)

Something a bit different but the purple work well with the gold, they almost look like some form of royal guard.

Now something completely different: Weathertop!

Image

Miniature painting WIP does not really work for me because I never bother taking WIP photos. Maybe better luck with terrain?

This Weathertop model is made with the instructions and templates from the Fellowship journey book.

I am always amazed at how neat much of the modelling work is on O-R, especially the scratch-building. How's progress on this one coming along?

A long journey is simply a lot of small steps one after the other. You still get there in the end. :)

Here is a bit more progress:

Image

I was about to paint it but I noticed that my textured paint had dried up. That will have to wait until I get more.

And Saruman for this mont's painting challenge:

Image

The robes have a basecoat, from which I intend to highlight towards a beige tone and some pure white details. The face is mostly done, but may need some touching up when I'm done with painting the other parts.
