Can you use characters from each in one army? I ask bc I was going to get the MoM and EfGT and was wondering if I could combine both the starter armies to one big army? This is more for the forces of good than evil.

Yes you can combine both in 1 army but LoTR Hero's can't lead warriors from the Hobbit and vice versa

Yeah that's right. Just treat them like an allied force, each warband must have its own hero and bow limits apply as normal

you can have, for example, Thorin Oakenshield leading 12 dwarves of erebor in a Warband and Gimli leading 8 Khazad Guards in another.
Only limit is, a Hobbit hero cannot lead a LOTR warband and vice-versa.

in the example above, Thorin cannot lead Khazad Guards and Gimli leading erebor dwarves

a combined mom and efgt goblin force is on my to do list. My son has finished the efgt goblins just the mom goblins to go(that will be down to me). One thing i would recommend is soucing a goblin shaman. An old Lotr shaman will work for both forces and really fury is super important. Goblin armies just do not die , with in effect a 33% save to wounds with the chanelled spell.

I've got a related question, does it have to be a named character? For example, could you combime a Dwarf Captain of Erebor leading 12 dwarves of Erebor in a Warband and a Dwarf Captain leading 8 Khazad Guards in another?
