Finished Aragorn today and carried on with Gandalf. Both should be based and finished tomorrow. Hopefully some more of my stuff will arrive by then so I can continue with some other things...

Aragorn (and the sheath that was broken)

Gandalf, with slightly more visible Glamdring.

Sorry again for the lighting. The last few days I've just been coming home from work and painting like mad. Will try to sort it out tomorrow or so.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks a lot, Harfoot. Good to be back.

My razor saw arrived today, so I started work on the Boromir conversion I had planned for a while. Wish I had bought a razor saw earlier, it's an amazing piece of kit. Makes conversions so much easier...

(note the new cut on my thumb... that saw is sharp!)

The sword arm is coming from a dying Amon Hen Boromir (he won't be needing it in the afterlife). I think it's gonna look pretty smashing. Am tempted to sculpt an Elven cloak on, too.

Looks good. Love jewelers saws for conversions (if that is the same thing?). Boromir should look ace when all done up with cloak and sword, blowing his challenge to the enemy.

Cheers sithious! As far as I can gather, jeweler saw = razor saw. All I know is, that sumbitch can cut!

Thanks Harfoot.

Boromir's sword arm is curing at the moment, so whilst I was waiting for it to finish I started a few more projects:

Image

Aragorn at Amon Hen with an Elvish cloak. The plastic portion comes from an Elf warrior of the Last Alliance, the rest is sculpted. Want to replace his elven knife with a bow, too, and maybe add some bracers.

Image

Another Boromir. This one is fairly straightforward; glued a MoM Boromir shield to his arm (which is screaming for a shield imo) and added some greenstuff straps.

And here are the two finished models I was painting earlier in the week:

Thanks for looking.

The conversions are coming along quite nicely. As for the painting, it looks good. I would say that some of the blending could be improved though. The face of boromir and the beard of Gandalf are great, and then I look at Aragorn's cloak, and the transitions don't look that smooth to me. Judging by the aforementioned things, and Aragorn's wound, which are all painted quite well, you definitely have the skill to bring it up a notch. The brown Jerkin that Aragorn wears on his right side in the front (under his sword) also has a really sharp looking highlight. It might just be the photo, but it looks out of place.

Hope that helps and is not discouraging!

Thanks guys.

Avenger: Yeah, I think the photo is pretty dire, the paintjob looks better in real life. Really need to work out a better way to take pics. The cloak isn't as good as it should be, you're right, so I repainted it a bit. Thanks for the feedback.

More pics of my Boromirs to follow soon.

So I've got a lot of new tools that I've been trying out, and because of this, I've gone back over my latest conversions and done them "properly". I think I'm slightly addicted to pinning with the hobby drill.

I've been primarily working on Boromir and Aragorn. They're kind of based on a line from Boromir in the Fellowship about their triumphant return to Minas Tirith. Here they are:

Image

B has a billowy green stuff cloak on the back which I'm pretty proud of.

Image

A is still in the beginning stages. I'm pretty proud of the pose, though, I think it's quite unique. Loosely based on the Gandalf sculpt where he's pulling Glamdring out its sheath. The cloak is from Victoria Miniatures, by the way, they have some really good resin ones that I'm going to use from now on when a miniature needs a cloak. Definitely worth a look if you have trouble sculpting cloaks (like me).

Nice work Matt, the hair on Boromir is superb. Looking forward to seeing them both painted

This looks like such a fun project, working with two legends like that. Awesome conversions.
