The Shadow Lord has something similiar.
With the new deployment rules, it isn't that bad anymore. You have a good chance your opponent has to deploy only 10" away (2 ranks). So heroic march in the first turn you are only 4" away and your opponent gets a maximum of 2 shootphases with malus.

is even better. the Light is no more permanent as it used to be, the Shadow lord aura is always on. Against those Mirkwood rangers, the Shadow lord is a blessing.

Yup. Ive played with and against the Shadow Lord many times. If you play against someone you know is taking Mirkwood or Elves in general, harad spam bow, or Isengard spam crossbows....hes your first choice.

Maybe you need to try playing some scenarios that require you both to move and hold objectives.
This removes the ability to fire away like artillery.
Well at least his shots will have to be closer.
And you have to "play the objective" more in the games .. which gives a different importance to some of your what seem like less important units in your army. E.g a Balrog on an objectives is great... would you immediately try for the other objectives or waste time and heroes fighting it off the objective?
