I've decided to put this up a little early as its a little bigger than the previous diorama challenge.

Welcome to another One Ring Diorama Challenge. This time the subject will be .....

TOTAL WARFARE

Image

This challenge is to make a diorama which must include the minimum of 20 models
The idea is to try and depict a battle scene between multiple warriors or as large a group as you wish.

There is No size restriction for the piece and no set theme as such as long as the piece is in keeping with Middle Earth, its is completely up to you what you would like to do with this. Models on bases on a display piece is acceptable.

The challenge commences immediately and completed projects must be uploaded to this thread by midnight GMT of JULY 31st 2015 making the challenge last for 7 months.

Any problems or questions feel free to PM me.

Rules.

1. Any miniatures used on the diorama require proof pictures to be taken as normal with the unpainted miniature against the challenge screen. Models already primed are fine to enter and if repainting an already painted model a picture of the mini in its pre repainted state is acceptable.

2. As it is difficult to take proof pics of terrain pieces then all that is required as proof is 5 Work in progress pictures of the terrain part of the diorama must be submitted either at some point during the challenge or alongside your completed piece.

3. You may join the challenge at any point. Pictures of completed pieces and 5 WIP pictures to be uploaded to this thread by midnight GMT of July 31st 2015. A maximum of 6 pictures of your completed piece please.

4.Entries that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

Have fun guys!

Would non-GW models be permitted?

I'm currently painting some Anglo Saxon historicals that would work well as a Rohan shieldwall vs Mordor Orcs. They're all [the Saxons, not Orcs] partially painted (basecoats) and one model (the leader) is fully painted.

What a great idea, to try out a nice lake town militia versus orcs fight :-)
I dont know if I'll make it, but first have to see the film to get the inspiration going....

Very tempted to do a Smaug v Dwarves/Dale diorama at this point.

And I just finished my rohan buildings....

Might have to think about another bigger one or try something else.

Entering two diorama competitions within minutes of each other.. yeah, why not. #Ambitious

Big pile of minis, consisting of Aragorn, Legolas, half of the Elven twins (always forget who is who), Halbarad, some Rangers of the North, King of the Dead, a few Warriors of the Dead, a Rider of the Dead, good ol' Skully, some random Mordor Orcs and a sprue's worth of Morannon Orcs (not all of whom will feature).

A slightly strange, but nicely varied combination of film and book I suppose.

Want to give this one a proper go ... if I find the time. Uni means my GW stuff is only available at Christmas, Easter and over the summer (assuming I have no essays or anything to do).

No idea what I'll enter (assuming that time is on my side), it'll depend on what unbuilt/unpainted models I have. I'm thinking rangers versus orcs or haradrim or something similar, an ambush of some sort. Or, if I find any rohirrim, a mini-Pelennor Fields. I know I have a small pile of basically-untouched sprues, I'll have to check what's on them, and hope I can make two forces that would have a reason to fight.

I'm afraid not Aw1909 - Proof pictures of all aspects of the challenge must be submitted to the thread in order to be eligible for the vote.

And I've chosen a battle. It has something to do with 'Battle of Five Armies'...
But it will be a blend between book and movie.

I failed to launch this project for the Duel diorama challenge so I'll try again for Total Warfare.

Gondor vs. Gorgoroth!

Here are the good guys. The bad guys are still in the mail (well they better be GW!)

Scenario - a great beast of Gorgoroth and crew rampage through the ruins of Osgiliath like a rhino on steroids, but the stout-hearted defenders of Gondor make a brave stand.

Sounds like a hefty task. Good thing there's a long time to get it done. :)
