I think we've all had that one game where both lines have just clashed and round after round is spent charging straight forwards again and again. My question is could archery be used to prevent this. It would require a more unconventional deployment perhaps even risking splitting up your own army but could you guide your opponents army through terrain for cover with the use of say a warband of archers. Also which models would be best for this and consequently which armies would be best at it. Siege machines as a side note?

Woodelves lead by old school thranduil. They hit on a 2+. Archers are better than we give them credit for. However, keep in mind, lotr sbg is a melee skirmish game. Hence archery has been nerfed again and again.

crossbows are a good deterrent. You would realy want cavalry though I suspect for this to be your bread and butter strategy, which isengard isnt particularly strong with.
