The shaman conversion is a really good idea, and superb executed as well! 8) The first goblintown goblin I really like...
The display boards are really nice as well, they make these beautiful armys look even better! Keep up the good work!

Thanks all for the kind words.

I had a blast at Throne of Skulls, as expected. My pal who was driving Major_Tom and I up there had a car issue, which put a downer on his weekend as in the end it proved to be a write off. We clubbed together and bought him a mounted legolas to try and make up for it in small part, but he put on a brave face and had a good weekend regardless.

I also came away with something of a haul:

I won the single miniature category, the war band category and received a nomination for the best army. Unfortunately my display board was too big to put in the cabinet which was a shame, because I really wanted to see it under all the pretty lights, but I decided I had gone to the effort to make the thing, and so I would rather display it sub-optimally than display the army in cabinet without the display board.

I won four games and lost three, so a better than 50% record, which pleased me. I'm sure i would have done better taking crossbowmen than scouts, but I wanted to get them and Mahur painted, and so made the right decision- it's not about the winning! Easy for me to say of course, because I haven't a chance of winning anyway!

Anyway, some pictures to follow tomorrow. Haven't uploaded them yet.

Currently I'm painting Thrydan Wolfsbane for a tournament this weekend. From a distance he's a LOVELY model, but when you get up close the sculptor has actually taken a lot of shortcuts, and many areas are rough and crude. It doesn't spoil the overall effect, but it's a bit of a shame I think.

After Thrydan I may speed paint 12 high elf spearmen, or perhaps press on with some scenery work- I have 12 trees to magnetise and snow on. Joy!

Fantastic work :)

Where theyre a lot of scenic boards there? I tend to go to Fantasy and 40k tournaments and haven't seen any for a good few years!

Thanks folks!

Actually there were quite a few display boards- maybe 8 or 10?

So, photos as promised.

Boom! Proud :D.

Random goblin town goodness at Warhammer World. The goblins and Uruks are mine. The board is the best LotR display board there. Loads of fun:

Well deserved winners all, I voted for you in the hero, monster and warband categories, just stunning work all round. I think your chances at Best Army were hindered by the fact your army wasn't in the cabinet and was on that table. I didn't even know it was a nominee until Tom Harrison told me after the voting :-( Well done all round though buddy, great to see you rewarded for such a talent, thanks for the great game too, top, top fun.

Hehe, well, that was the hotel bed. The missus asked me how I did, so that picture was my reply.

And as always, thanks all for the kind words. There are pretty much two reasons I paint as much as I do. One of them is (now) the GBHL league, which is a good motivator to get things painted. The other is this site and this thread- the support is amazing, and really does spur me on and help maintain my enthusiasm.

So, a few Thrydan Wolfsbane shots.

Before paint:

Basic work on red and armour done:

The current state of play- still have the horse to paint, and the bronze to spice up a bit.

It's such a super model in terms of design. Unfortunately the actual quality of the sculpt is disappointingly dodgy. You can see there's a huge area of inexplicable roughness on the horses neck- really lazy sculpting. I guess I'm lazy too, because I should have taken the time to repair it. I may do that with GS tonight before actually painting the area tomorrow. The model needs to be finished by tomorrow evening.
The fur isn't very well done either.
It's still a great model, but if I were quality control I'd have given it back to the sculptor and told him to finish it properly.

Anyway, it makes a great impression on the table I think- very bold and fun design. I just wish I had 12 Dunlending for him to lead!

Woah.. I love it! The basing is awesome and together with the paintjob it really brings the model to life! The quality of sculpt is a shame but tbh I didnt notice it until you mentioned it. I guess I took the neck for being covered in rough fur of some kind ^^

Looks great buddy, better than my effort - here's hoping for a Thrydan off at some point on Sunday! :-) The Great Giblin in the first round eh? Time for a giant slaying Baldwin, if you take him down there's a pint in it for you, it'll help my league chances no end! :-)

You have made a fine job of him so far.
Dr Grant mentioned a new character:

This we have to see

I feel my title as "Giblinslayer the Great" is somewhat premature. :D

Always a pleasure to play you Damian- just like Harrison the Deceiver, you're one of those fellows that manages to win without having the "we must have it, precious" attitude. Consequently, games are equally as fun win or loose, which I think, is one of the greatest compliments you can give a wargamer!

I love the texture and colours on the rock, it's almost a shame to cover it.

That last piece has definitely a more dynamic pose once it's added to that base. Contrapposto pose I believe, sounds like Italian - my lecturer would go on and on about it ha. The base is super though, I like how you've got the ice rather than just the snow. Very good mix - and the little frozen plant! Difficult to say what constructive criticism I could give you. Filling in the neck perhaps as you mentioned or maybe some more highlights on the horse. Adding a more ivory tone look to the horse hooves might help add some colour to him. Very nice to read/look at your wip thread.

I think Thrydan is an outstanding model alone and with your painting i really want to buy 1 myself! What i really love is the fur on the horse, absolutely great. perfect shades and highlights, really smooth. The base is amazing aswell, using ice instead of snow makes want to get some snow bases done aswell.

Also i loved your feral uruks on the previous pics, the highlight on skin is making their muscles look great.
Great work :D
