Paint Striping

I recently got some metal trolls and hero's i was wondering what's the best way to take the paint off them. Any advice is appreciated.

For metal minis I use nail polish remover. Let them soak in it a few hours then rinse under hot water and scrub them with a small grill brush (you can get these for cheap anywhere) and there you have it a cleaned mini.

Do not put any plastic in the nail polish remover though as it will melt the plastic

Acetone free nail polish remover works wonders. I always use it, and have no problem

i always use pure acetone, sink them in for 10 minutes and then start using an old toothbrush to remove the paint. keep sinking them after for 3-4 more times, each 30 seconds and repeat.
do this it will be 95% clear of paint

I posted this elsewhere before so I've copied and pasted it here for you.

Basically, mix a solution of about 80% Dettol to 20% water in a container with a lid, using just enough solution to cover the amount of miniatures you wish to strip. I used the very, very cheap Dettol anti-bacterial spray, the sort used for cleaning kitchen surfaces, rather than the strong brown stuff that I see a lot of people using. Now leave this for about 48 hours, shaking gently but thoroughly just before you go to bed, or wake up, whenever really. After the first 12 hours you will see the water turning cloudy, I woke up after 24 to see the solution had turned completely black.

Once 48 hours has passed, use an old toothbrush with soft bristles to scrape away the paint. The reason I say soft bristles is because I used one with quite coarse bristles, and when I assessed the miniature I noticed slight scratches on the surface. You can get a miniature looking like its never been painted within about 2 minutes of brushing.

Then place the clean models in a warm soapy solution, leave for about a minutes and then dry them one-by-one, I find a hairdryer is perfect.

Simple green concentrate. Leave the mini in undilluted simple green for a day then come back and scrub the paint off with a brush. This is safe for metal, plastic and bonesium minis. I assume resin too, but i don't own any resin minis i need to take paint off of.

I like to use Dawn grill cleaner, works on metal and plastic and cleans a little better than simple green. Does not make the paint gummy when brushing it off. Which is the only difference really.

The Dettol/Simple Green methods people use, may work, but they do take a few days, and can be messy...

If you want something stripped faster....

Well I use:

1. Fairy Power spray to strip a single mini, takes about 20 mins to allow it to soak in then scrub with a toothbrush.

2. Non Acetone (acetone free) nail varnish remover. Again 20 minutes dip and scrub. Handy for bulk stripping, and cheaper than #1 above.

Both these work for metals... plastics... resins...
