I still have a lot to learn. But I figure if 3D printing ever renders sculptors redundant, I can always turn to painting :) I only have the entire LotR range as a backlog. :o

I like how you raised the based to match the height of the standard slottabases. Well done on the paint job. The little detail bits are nicely picked out, and the additions to the base really fill it out. Excellent work!

Actually all GW monsters come now with 60mm bases that height. The old flat Titan 60mm bases that used to come with Treebeard and the Balrog for example are no longer packaged with LotR/Hobbit products, although I still use them on my own line of Tree Giants as you will find out soon I'm sure.

Synthesizers and drum machines didn't kill off musicians, Photography didn't kill off painters. You'll be alright. Nice painting

Super paint job on Treebeard. I love the subtle colors through out, the green tinge in places.

He has weathered a few storms and a few millennia of standing in one place for sure (needs to get some antifungal for that athletes foot, er, athletes all over, fungus).

I didn't realize they had switched over. Thanks for the heads-up!

Clay Shapers - sounds like a sports commentator...
@Lord Hurin - I first read Bored of the Rings roughly 33 years ago. I was a student, on the train coming back to Derry from Belfast. I laughed so much my face hurt, and the conductor on the train was offended, thinking I was making fun of him. I couldn't stop laughing to explain his mistake.
Very nice Treebeard UKFB. Baroom! But he should really be shown alongside some tree giants (ahem), just for artistic reasons.

Thanks chaps :) The only downside is I compared this commission to my own one that I painted years ago and it makes that one look like Devlan Mud. I will have to redo it. Eventually lol.

So I have revisited the Azog Defiler pose I did a while ago now that there is an official GW Azog to work with. This was a relatively simple conversion. I just cut his left leg off diagonally from hip to groin, rotated it back a bit and glued it back on. The foot was now incorrectly angled down, but a dip in hot water allowed me to straighten it up level with the other foot. Cloth was added to the join at the hip. Both arms were attached in their normal positions, but I obviously straightened the right one at the elbow after removing the weapon. The gap was filled with putty. His fork arm was also left in place. I just snipped of the end from behind the elbow and also the fork end, leaving just a straight rod with which to surround with putty to create a new foream. The head of Thror was carefully removed and attached under his clenched fist. I also cut off Azogs head to reposition it looking up at his trophy.
Image

Hair was added to the rear of the Thror head, and a knife from my bits box was added to Azogs arm once I had sculted the hand around it. I also took the opportunity to beef him up a little in the arm and lats department.

This model will be heading off to BillFerny333 shortly as it was commissioned by him.

Looks quite good. Better IMO than the GW one

Edit: Referring to the pose

Wow, that is a great conversion! 8) It really catches the moment in the film, very well done! Nothing to critizise, you'll enter it in the S&C Challenge, wont you? (Not good, very big concurrence... :-D )

Wooohoooo! Can't wait to get hold of it and sling some paint at it! Its all the subtle changes that really make these conversions amazing. Thanks Dave!

There is little doubt, your sculpting is improving. First rate job mate.
I wonder who will paint it.....
