But I do think that they look good though! Hopefully will get Beorn at some point in the future.

I was lucky enough to saw Beorn bear-form in the flesh, or in the fur (pardon), at my local GW the other day, the manager was painting him up for a display, and I was surprised how small he seemed. I don't know if it's because I was comparing him to Dwarves/Hobbits when I saw DOS, but I thought he would be much bigger, even in miniature. I didn't handle him, but looking at him I'd say he was maybe 2 inches tall?

Strangely though, they have a box of 3 Tau Crisis suits priced at £40, but a single one will cost £15.50, so that's a saving of a whopping...... *drum roll*..... £1.50!!!

Not much I know, but I was still dumbfounded even by this! Shame I don't collect Tau, I'm missing out on such a bargain! :-D

hmmm.... on the figures you just posted (I haven't verified the prices) it would be a saving of £6.50 which I think is quite nice.

I've been saving up for them so not too big a hit ;)

Word of warning about the gundabads. The swords are very flimsy and the contact points between the feet and base are minimal. But, they look amazing. Gonna paint up 3 of the shield orcs tomorrow.

I talked to my FLGS and they ordered a Beorn for me, it will arrive in a week hopefully. I'm excited and nervous, this is my first large finecast mini. Can't wait to paint Beorn!

Does the bear come with a 50mm or 60mm base?

Anyways, could any of you post a scale shot between a new Gundabad orc and a plastic uruk-hai, maybe a normal orc too? I'm curious about their size.

The bear is a 60mm base.

I'm afraid I didnt have an uruk hai but the gundabads look a similar size.

Those gundabads look like really cool models when they're not in the gw paint scheme

Can you post a couple pictures of the bear from different angles? I really can't decide if I want it or not.

Oh yeah, sorry, I don't know where £1.50 came from, I must have been tired! :-D £6.50!?!?! Even better, someone should let GW know, they must be making unprecedented losses with a good deal like that!? :-D Although, in truth, if I was collected Tau, I would definitely spend the £80 for six suits just to save the £13!

Beorn the man in stunning! I'm very impressed with the sculpt, he may even be my favorite mini from the range, he is also awesomely tall!

The bear, well i think i'll need to be more alert to assemble that than i am right now, it looks great, the detail on the face is very sharp, but the pieces of the miniature just don't libe up porperly at all, and will require plenty of green stuff. (Also my first large finecast mini, and i'd say it is more effort than i was expecting)

I also picked up girion, who is pretty awesome, but i do need to fix his thumb due to an air bubble, not quite enough to warrant a return though, otherwise spot on! I'll be posting pics tommorow.

i got beorn :) i painted the bear a dark brown instead of the black-grey gw did.

on another note, i don't get why beorn would have a shackle on his wrist at all. where does it go when he morphs into bear mode??

I wondered that. I'm assuming it's just an error on PJ&Co's part.

If you want to rationalise it, maybe he puts it back on when he's gets dressed, having turned back into a Man - sort of to remind him of those he lost and the injustices committed to him.

I'm pretty sure in the movie he is seen with the shackle on as a bear too. That raises the question of how it changes size to accomdate the shapeshift

As for that detail being missing from the model I'd say its safe to assume GW based it off an earlier concept. It has been well documented how many designs have not been finalised until the very last minute on these films.

When I pick it up I intend to sculpt the shackle, and the the various scars and cuts, onto the bear version to bring it more in line with the version we saw on screen.

Possible. The other liklihood is that there's actually more magic in the cinema Middle-earth than the book Middle-earth, and that shackle is magically maybe bound to him somehow? If just gets lost in the bear form?

On the logic that is being used by others, then shouldn't Beorn in bear form also be wearing his man form's waistcoat and trousers?
