@Delirivm: Ah, the shields.

1) A basecoat of a dark silver colour (thinned down with water off course, not to mouch though!).
2) Then a light/heavy wash/shade of a green ( doesn't have to thinned down). After that a bleu wash/shade.
3) After that you repeat the first step, but the like controlled parts (per example: in the middle and other parts of the shield that are centered).
4) Now you'll add a layer of a lighter silver colour (thinned down) and apply that onto that paint in the centre, but then in the centre of the centre of the darker silver. (If you are still getting it)
5) Then you should repeat step 2!
6) If it does not meet your expectations, you should repeat step 4 and after that step 2 one more time (the part with the light silver!)

I hope this will give you an idea of how I painted the shields.

Should I leave the backs of the shields black with a grey highlight on the edges?

Thanks!

Might try this technique as well one day!
Hm, on photo the shields look fine as they are now.

You could make the shield a bit darker in the centre (back) and lighter towards the edges but that's just something for when you've got too much time on your hands :p

Well, well, well. It seems it is time to post some almost finished Palace Guard pictures!

They really are almost finished, I've only got to do the spears, swords, some clothing and the boots and of course the bases!

First, some group pictures:

Then some individuals:

And two of my favourite, still not undercoated elven Heroes:

That's it for tonight!

Comments, questions and critics are welcome!

The green and red work really well on the Palace Guard. Normally these colours can clash a bit. Your Eagle is beautifully painted. I'm also impressed by your wood elf conversions. Not too sure about Thranduil. The blotches seem to work OK on the greenish robe, but they stand out a bit too much on the cloak. Not sure if you can blend them in more?

Well well well,

Finaly, it's done, 9 Palace Gaurds down!
(Never mind the bases, I'll do them when all other miniatures are painted).

I'm very happy with how the red and green worked out together.
And I must say that I'm very proud of the cloaks!! :D

Here we go.

Palace Guards and Thranduil:

Without Thranduil:

And two pictures of a WIP Tauriel:

Tips and Tricks are most welcome!

These look great,me red and green would be something that I felt wouldn't work but seeing them, then it's clear it does.
When you do Tauriel face, make sure you keep it smooth to profile a feminine face, but looking at your standard I'm sure you will be.

Ah but yes, before I'm doing the face (which will be done last) I've done all the faces of the Mirkwood Rangers as a practice. And, would smooth and thin layers of paint work if they are followed by some very carefully apllied washes/shades?

Well, well, well. I've painting at the local GW today and I figured I'd take some much lighter and better pictures of my Palace Guards, Thranduil and Tauriel!

A small army picture with finished and WIP mini's
Image

Tauriel (Still a WIP, the face is almost done, although this picture was taken before I started with her face)

And at last a really what we can call finished Warband!

That's it for today!

C&C are welcome,

Nice cloaks on the guards, they look the part. Do I detect a metallic finish to Thranduils cloak ?

Thanks, I'm very happy with it! And, if I may ask, what exactly do you mean by a 'metallic finish'?

Oh and I'm currently working on yet eleven other Palace Guards! Yahoo!!

Oh, and two pics of Tauriel's face, though they look a bit blurry and messy...

The cloak draped over his arms has a look as if some silver has been used on it.

Ah, okay. No I think this is just the effect of how I painted him and a little effect of the light. But you are right about how it looks, it almost got me to..

Tauriel, yes, her face is done, one of her two daggers is done and I'm now working on the boots, braces(?-the protective gear around the arms), bow and arrows and the wooden part of the dagger. After that's done I can finally start with her base!

Here goes:

I love the red on the Palace Guard. I was severely tempted to use a rich red on Legolas as I thought it would go well with the green (instead of the blue) and perhaps I may yet in the future. the army of the Elven King looks very grand. go get those jewels from those dirt digging Dwarves.

Indeed, Indeed, I will get those jewels back!
Also I've started. again, with the Mirkwood rangers: They're getting a 2/3 types of brown and green colour scheme along with legolas. Tauriel will get her own warband of Rangers eventually but for now she's a captain of the Guard.

Et merçi beaucoup! Merçi!

Oh, no, it has been a long time since I've updated this painting log.
I think this update has some good pictures although...

Well It only is a small update of what I'm working on at the moment.

(It is also a goal for an upcoming tournament held here in the Lowlands, as it has a Best Painted Award)

My army (500Pts) will consist of:

Thranduil the Elvenking

+ 9 Palace Guards, 4 with shields and 5 with spears.

Tauriel

+9 Mirkwood Rangers

And Bilbo Baggins with sting and the Ring of Power.

Bilbo Baggins (I've only started painting him this night... And the lighting is not that good to.. sorry for that... (IT was yellow light.. :(
Image

Tauriel (Again)

And the Mirkwood Rangers (Renewed)
