Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help me with my query. I'm about to restart my LOTR collection and I was wondering exactly how fate works.

I have the rule book and it says that fate is used to recover lost wounds.

Can fate be used at any time or only at the time the wound is suffered? If Aragorn has all three wounds left and then suffers 2 (so he has 1 left), would he have to use his fate to get those wounds back or can I just save them until I decide to use them later to get those two wounds back?

Also, say if I didn't use them immediately, if he loses his last life can I use fate to get his life back then or is too late as once his last life is gone it is too late to use fate?

Thanks!

You could save them for later, but there's no point in doing so. Save yourself the headache and use them right away :)

Fate won't help him "get wounds back" at any time, either when they are suffered or at a later stage of the game. They essentially prevent the wound from happening. As such, they can't be used later when he's down to one wound.

Tactically, though, I agree with whafrog that you should just use them as the wounds are suffered.

That's really helpful thanks!

Just one more question. If aragorn suffers a wound and I roll 1 fate dice and it doesnt work, can I then roll another, or did I have to declare I wanted to roll with two at the beginning of that section?

You can then roll the next fate. Its very useful in that regard

You can also use Might to modify the Fate roll...another reason not to wait, because if you do you could be out of Might by then.

This is all good advice except in Lords of Battle where you're tactically better off saving all of your Fate for your last wound. Although granted, as Whafrog says, you may then have less Might for those dreaded Fate rolls of '3' :-)

Ill plug them and say go to youtube and watch the GBHL podcast. Best resource for in game video explanation of rules. And fun too.

I agree with all of the above, though if you know your opponent has anything that can "insta-kill" a hero, take note of that and save all of your might on all of your heroes until the second to last wound. You don't want to spend all your fate on goblins and then get hit by a Dragon's firebreath!

Also if you have a magic user who has renew, save your fate and take the wound then renew your hero with magic guy.
