Show me what you think One Ring! I'll start by voting Azog and the Hasharin: both excel at hunting down and murdering enemy heroes..!

I went with monsters; higher F value means heroes are more likely to burn Might just to be on the safe side, because the risk of Rend is too high to be neglected.

Assuming he gets the charge and wins the inevitable Heroic Strike roll off, it's got to be Azog. 8 attacks wounding on 3+ will take down just about anything.

Yeah based off a just 1-1 scenario starting Azog easily. He's got 3+ to wound on ANY heroes......you have plenty of attacks and might to win the rolls too. And if you have the white warg he's great. In your force though to basically have a game beginning troops you hope to be successful I'd go with a troll or something.

I voted monsters because its the Watcher. D6 shooting attacks and then 6 strength 6 strikes with the rending strike kills most enemies on 3+ and he's not vulnerable to the charge like a cavalry unit is.

Oh and if they try and hide their hero he'll just pop up underneath them and eat them immediately

I went with monsters, specifically thinking of the time the spider queen killed a fully healthy Aragorn in one turn.

I'm actually surprised noones mentioned the Hasharin... 3 attacks 3 fate and re-rolls on failed strikes? Dayum

They're certainly very good, and perhaps the best Hero-killer for their points, but as to the "Best" I see that as the one who can do it easiest and most often (ie out of 100 times they were successful the most).

Fight 5 and 1 might holds them back massively.

Just going to toss Sauron out there as my "Other" because he's a monster that deserves to be mentioned in his own category. He's statistically invincible (just save all your might for those rare 1's with the ring save), and is a spell caster, high stats, and has the BPA's. Pretty deadly

Spider Queen + beastcaller = epicness . Just think those twelve re-rollable S9 attacks. Thats absolutely crazy! Also Azog is beast too. Does he get bonus from twohanded or lance to his 3+ roll?

Men and monsters get my vote. Thinking back to that time Boromir cut through half my opponents Mordor army (including two Wraiths!) in a mere few turns almost single handedly.

But with monsters, you get a high strength and often defence, with special rules such as throwing all combine together to make an unstoppable killing machine.

Gil Galad is just beast. He killed a troll chieftain in 2 turns, heroic combatted on the second and then killed shagrat. But he's also a fantastic troop killer, able to kill D4 on 3s with Aeglos.

Enraged bat swarm + cave troll/ hero = dead hero 9/10

Or even a normal bat swarm + troll/ hero

monsters, easily,
when you win, you just throw the hero through a dense line.
many many hits, and ofcourse rend helps too.

A combination of magic and monsters should be enough most of the time. Magic to neutralise the hero's abilities to do much for that turn, the monster to ensure he won't be doing anything anymore for the rest of the battle. *stomp*

Of course, there was this battle where a transfixed Dáin survived duelling with a Mordor Troll Chief for several consecutive turns, only to cleave the Troll in some small pieces when the Nazgûl's Will had all but ran dry, but then again, that was Dáin. Normal enemies won't survive such an onslaught.

How about the Betrayer on fell beast?
- If he charges in he is getting 3 attacks, 6 to wound with knockdown
- Can cast magic to weaken the hero
- Re-rolls wounds with master of poison
- For low strength models he can roll against strength using rend
- Rolls to wound using strength 6 of the fell beast
- All for 170pts.
Not too bad 8)

I am the best hero killer... No seriously I tend to make heroes like dain and durin a 1 turn execution, nothing like a dweller, bat swarm and lots of goblins eh?

Wait... since when is Sauron a monster? He's great and also my choice for best Hero killer (or maybe the Balrog), but he only counts as a spirit unless there is an errata I am missing...
