I've heard mixed reviews about P3 paints but if these are the results i guess they must be ok?

There are some interesting colours in the range and I've never had any problems with them apart from the metallics. I still use Vallejo for the basic colours but now I can no longer buy them in store I won't be expanding my collection as I find buying online is something of a lottery.

Amazing, I'm jealous (in a good way). I like the colours you have chosen and the paint job especially the highlights!

Almost there with Thranduil:

I also have an announcement to make. You may remember that I emigrated to the US last year. Whilst the move has been mostly enjoyable I have struggled to get even a single job interview. Long story short I decided on a career change to something more satisfying and socially useful than giving tax advice to the rich and will now (hopefully) earn a living painting toy soldiers.

I have an ebay store with various stuff going for sale here:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/merrivale_miniature_painting_services/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

Commissions are on hold until late this month (moving house again). But feel free to send a pm or email me at merrivalemps@fastmail.fm if you are interested.

This is quite exciting and a little scary. Any advice would be most welcome!

I logged in just to say that is quite, quite excellent. I love the ethereal effect you've executed on him. Your Galadriel and Celeborn were my favourite models of yours but this has taken first place.

You certainly have the talent! The very best of luck with it. I doubt it's an easy way to make a living, but fun nonetheless!

I do have a word of advice though- eBay sucks. Host your images on photo bucket and link them- that way people can see your amazing work up close and personal. I'm not so sure people will pay decent prices unless they can see a really detailed shot, and your eBay store images seem not to "enlarge", which I think is standard unless you use your own hosted images, or pay for a "gallery view" or some such thing.

Wonderful work and indeed good luck with the new venture. As Mertaal said eBay images are terrible so get some images up in the description/comments section so people can see how awesome the minis look.

I think you need your own site with lots of images and then maybe link your eBay to that - it would provide you with more control and a greater gallery, accumulating over time.
Best of luck with the venture!

Yes, I agree, you should do you own site. Easiest would be a blog, like these German guys do:
http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.de/

Its their only income (painting classes, selling painted minis etc.).

Best of luck with the commission work. The thought has crossed my mind from time to time but I don't have the start up costs to spare, and still need about 12 months of hard work. You'll be minted soon mate

Thanks everyone. I didn't realise the images were so badly compressed on ebay. I think having spent so much time on the painting side and getting the back end business stuff dealt with I'll use the next couple of weeks to sort out a blog and the ebay layout.

Thranduil is finished:

There are loads of little flaws here and there thanks to the unforgiving nature of these finecast models but I'm not too concerned about them. The overall effect is what matters and in that respect I'm more than happy.

If I were to paint him again I would try to recreate the glittery disco robes. I'm always a little conservative with fine cast since I've not been successful in stripping it.

That's my challenge then, the glittering robes it is.

What's your recipe for Thranduil's blue cloak?
