I found this image showing the size difference between metal and plastic easterling figures.

Image

I was wondering if someone could confirm weather or not there is a similar difference in the scale between the metal and plastic kataphrakt figures.

If someone could provide a photo comparison similar to the above picture that would be awesome.

Also.

According to articles I've read White Dwarf issues 315 358 and 386 all contain easterling painting guides or easterling related articles and I'm curious to know which (if any) of these contain good painting guides and what figures specifically they focus on and also if any of them are the same as the ones in A Shadow In The East sourcebook or Battle Games In Middle-Earth issue 77 or this article on the GW website.

https://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=cat150083a&pIndex=1&aId=4600004a&start=2&_requestid=127821

I hope this isn't too complicated a question to answer

I don't have those WD's so can't help you out there, but I would suggest following the painting guide in the Shadow in the East book. I am starting with a tin bitz base coat however as i think it works a lot better than the washes (just not enough contrast, looks all mixed in). Other than that its basically the same as in the book for me.

Not a brilliantly scaled photo but my Kataphrakts are a mixture of metal and plastic and other than the extra (small) details you'd be hard pressed to point them out:

Thanks for the advice :) Do you have any pictures of your easterlings?

The picture is kinda small and the angle isn't ideal but from what I can see they do seem to blend pretty well. Still, a side b side comparison would be nice.

Really nice paint job on them and the rest of your easterlings btw :yay:

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to take a snap but here are some other shots of them and as you can see they blend in well together (much better than the warriors):

Hope they help.

I used to own WD 358. The article on Easterlings had a small showcase with a bit of painting advice, different painting schemes for Easterlings, and conversion ideas (mostly applicable to War of the Ring).

The painting advice wasn't that enlightening though.

Good to know, thanks Constantine.

And thanks Giger, I already saw those two photos when I checked out the thread in your signature, The first photo you posted is the best because I can see them next to each other.

Anyway I took you word for them blending nicely and got 4 off eBay for cheap. Can't wait for them to get here :-D

I'm planning on using one of the horses for my plastic captain since the extra tassels make it look more important. Hope he fits on it lol

Now if I can just find someone with a complete WD and or BGIME collection to answer some questions I'll be all set!

You can find a complete BGiME collection on 4Shared (at least you could the last time I checked).
