Got my hands on some dirtcheap Khand at the local store. (the only + about having practically nobody playing Lotr SBG here)
But I only have 2x the King's chariot. (one of which i could use for a normal chariot if need be)
Are chariots really necessary for a Khandish force? And how many would you field in a force of 500 pts before it becomes 'overburn'.

Also how would you use the Khandish cavalry?

Heroes on chariots are pretty beast, they get access to brutal power attacks and have the might to be able to heroic move if needbe. I'd stay away from normal chariots, really easy to kill even when used right. Two kings/ chiefs on chariots + horses/ normal warriors would probably be your best bet in a 500pt force. Saying that, a full army of chariots would look sweeeeeeet!

Well that's good news. As i can have these Khand guys dirtcheap and the normal Khandish chariots on the website cost an arm and a leg.
:)

In Lotr SBG how would you use such a strongly mounted force?

I wouldn't  I don't tend to take cavalry much in my armies and when I do, it is a small amount, say 5 or 6 in 500pts. I use them to get behind enemy lines to attack spear support, shamans, banners etc.

All mounted would probably have to be hit & run. Especially with khandish horsemen. Spend as long as possibly shooting them with bows then try and charge a weaker flank. Outnumber the infantry if you can but beware the counter charge. Counter charged = dead 9 times outta 10. Keep might points back for heroic moves and don't be afraid to run away to regroup.

Just out of curiosity, how cheaply did you buy them? I consider Khandish kings on chariots to be among the best models of the range.

They were 35 euros prized here got them for 17 or so.
The blisters all go for 5 euros now. Boxes all -50%. And store had a box of riders and of Khandish warriors on foot. They had 12 or so blisters with captains in it (rider + on foot), guys on foot and some cavalry guys.

  Amazing discounts. Two years ago one of the hobby stores here was running also running a 50% sale on all blisters, and the boxes with metal minis were significantly discounted. I remember they were selling the metal Dragon for 25 euros; I bought the box with the 5 Serpent Riders for 17 euros; I also recall stocks of Shades 4 euros per blister..... I still regret not buying a couple. Needless to say they sold out pretty fast.

So they did over here too :)

:( bit too fast.

Got some Gondor guys, some dwarves a TON of Dunlendings.
Next order is buying a few more Dunlending blisters and turning them into a small force supplemented with Uruks i picked up and a lot or 2 from ebay. Then i'm moving onto the Gondorians. And then to the Khand guys :)

Would it be possible to write, or post a battle report of a game in which you will be using your Khandish forces? It's one of the least played armies, yet -at least in my opinion- among the most visually impressive.

Sure :)

And yeah I noticed they're quite 'underused' you barely encounter them online. :(

If your interested in Khand, I recommend you get as many Horsemen, Chieftains and Kings as you can because they are all OOP, only the Warriors and Charioteers are left at GW.

Khand troops are low D so are meant to be used as harass. They are part of the Eastern kingdoms so its 50% bows. Khandish foot soldiers with axes I guess would just be used to get wounds on or for flanking - I wouldn't expect them to last very long.

As already mentioned I would use chariots on captains or kings, not regulars as they just don't get enough benefit for the cost. I suppose they could but you'd be an idiot not to strike the driver instead of the chariot in close combat. It might help you last a bit longer vs bows as it hits the chariot on a 1-4 but again your rider only has 1 wound.

I guess they have two styles.
1 - Mostly mounted harass force with axemen on foot making up the other half (or all chariots hah!).
2 - A Solid block of easterlings with shield/pike and Khandish cavalry/chariots on the flanks.

As the chariots get brutal power attacks, hurl would be your best option followed by rend on heroes & captains. Barge would only be effective in limited situations. You would need a good phalanx of easterlings to get the most out of hurl, but it is certainly a viable style of play.

Against monster your are in quite a bit of trouble though - you either need to shoot it dead or ally in someone else to deal with it (Hasharin?)

A little off topic maybe but did you ever think of going online and selling them? You can sell them even at retail and some people probably will buy them and you can have more money to buy whatever army you want. Ive done that. Ive bought a lot of figures for like lets say 100 dollars and made upwards of 150-175 and then kept a few I wanted like 1 chariot or so and then buy whatever else I wanted with the profits. Just a thought.

50% bows only applies if you take pure easterlings I believe. I have difficulty imagining Khand as an individual force but as auxiliaries they are quite nice for easterlings to add flanks to pike blocks.

VandalCabbage - I just double checked the FAQ and it would seem you are right. "Eastern Kingdoms Warband Rules - Easterling Warriors in warbands chosen from the Eastern Kingdoms army list have a bow limit of 1/2 (rounding up) instead of the usual 1/3."

I had read it as "Eastern Warriors" and assumed it was anyone in the warriors list. Well that makes khand quite a bit harder to integrate and even less appealing for me to use, but they would still work.
