You took the words right out of my mouth.

Thankfully, the internet is choc full of such material, offered for free. Not always of the same quality or with such enthusiastic humour… but that's me being nostalgic about, lets be honest here, 20 years ago. I'm told White Dwarf hasn't been that for a long long time.

Does anyone know what will happen to those with a subscription or direct debit? If the subscription includes all of these then we'll be looking at £15 a month, not sure I want to pay out that much for something I barely enjoy anymore. If they are changing it, I will only want these weekly editions, so does anyone know if you will be able to alter subscriptions just for those and not bother with the 'catalogue'?

The GW mamager said subscriptions will be for the monthly "Visions" magazine, but the weekly mag "White Dwarf Weekly" will be available from the GW shop.

That is unfortunate :( I suppose I will go back to just buying them in store then, seems a shame there is no option to get a subscription to the weekly edition. I understand that it would be difficult logistically for GW, but not impossible.

Which means I will never see the weekly mag to decide one way or the other. I no longer even look at the White Dwarf. I am not sure what to expect from Visions. I will look at it in the unlikely event the only GW store in my state can stay in business long enough for me to stop by.

I hope these new magazines help reverse this.

Couldn't agree more! :-X

Great news, it had to change, imo. Sales must have gone down, I always see stacks left at the end of the month in the supermarkets.

Supermarkets?! If only! We used to be able to get them in our book shops, but no more. Gaming stores and GW itself are the only options now...

I'm cautiously optimistic about this as well. During SBG's heyday around the release of The Two Towers and Return of the King, WD was always awesome! Great articles, glances as things to come and of course new releases. Good times then, now significantly less so.

They just changed to the glossy expensive version like, a year ago and now they're changing it again? I guess a weekly incarnation has the potential to be really interesting, I'll reserve judgement until I actually see it.

I also hadn't noticed that the hills were gone, what the hell GW. I wanted some of those. What am I meant to do now, make hills myself like it's the '90s? :p

I think they want you to buy the Realm of Battle board. That is another topic :E
They did not release the BGME in the US so I never saw one. The weekly White Dwarf will end up the same. Unless something radically changes, I am not sure I care.

Or you could just, you know, buy high quality, competitively priced premade hills from other Manufacturers?

Your mind is now blown.

You're welcome.

Unless they actually do some Hobbit content, I don't give two lembas about it.

GW need to adapt their products to suit the market place, and this seems to be a reasonable attempt to keep their products relevant. I hope it's a success for them and is popular amongst their customers.

It's not a magazine I buy any more (since the days of Paul Sawyer), so I will be interested in hearing other people's opinions when the change comes in.

Paul Sawyer was a great editor, he now is part of the Warlord Team, as are a lot of Ex-GW staff

Well I could, but on the other hand...

I'm slightly out of touch with the third party scenery market actually, since you mention it, and some recommendations to look over would be useful, but I'm dragging this thread horribly off topic.

Good link 8)
I don't think you are that far off. You are describing what a lot of people want from the weekly White Dwarf. I don't believe it will take that direction.I am more discouraged by the limited availability. I suspect it will be some kind of sales tool. If that is true then in the end it won't matter much.

Just read that the new weekly white dwarf will actually be available in a variety of digital formats, including epub. I consider this great news, I like to have my reading material in digital version but have no desire to invest in Apple products. So far most GW digital materials are aimed at Apple, but with epub included any digital platform can be used.

I completely agree. Every store now has those plastic boards with the same plastic terrain kits. One of the best things about going to the store was to see the amazing boards that the staff had built. They really shot themselves in the foot when they stopped all that.

My independent retailer told me he would get the weekly White Dwarf if we would subscribe or agree to buy it ahead of time. There were no takers. He is going to get one. I think he believes he will be stuck with it. White Dwarf sells like lead balloons already. I will look at a copy on the 31 and decide if I will pre order or not.

'Games Workshop's Weekly Magazine: Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer, Citadel Miniatures.'

Hmm, probabaly best not to get exited about any Hobbit content then.
