Stop at 2.28 (approx) for a view of a new dwarf armor design.

I noticed this, it also seems like he is bobbing up and down as if he is mounted.

Boar cavalry? Yes please!

Let's not jump to conclusions, to me it looks like he is running on the treadmill we see him fall off a few seconds later, not riding on a mount.

I'm fine with Boar Cavalry. Sounds fun. It's in the same tier of fairytale whimsy as Radagast's Sleigh (which I also love, and feel so alone in that). I wouldn't accept it in LotR, but do accept it in the hobbit (despite both existing in the same world, I see the Hobbit as Bilbo telling a story, and like all good stories it gets some embellishment on the true facts the more it's told).

Now, bring on Beornings on Beornings! Bear cavalry, ho!

Whatever you may think, evoking Tolkien's hypothetical opinion is a poor line of argument. Tolkien himself couldn't see why Helm's Deep would be included in a film adaptation. In all likelihood he'd have hated the films, or at best been completely ambivalent regardless.

In their defense, they do. Christopher Tolkien, that is :)

Becuase he never would have come up with talking purses, talking giant spiders, talking giant wolves, giant elephants, giant eagles or a guy who could turn into a bear. Oh, wait a minute. He did. I don't how boar cavalry could be any less Tolkien than wolf cavalry.

On a side note, from what I've heard, Christopher Tolkien is a purist about LotR, whereas his father wasn't. He might not like some of the changes, but he was quite willing to sell the rights because he needed the money. I don't think Christopher Tolkien would ever sell any of the rights, whether he needed the money or not.

Don't forget sheep carrying crockery on their backs whilst dogs stand on their hind legs and lay the table.

Boar cavalry - absurd indeed....

Looks like a plain Grim Hammer or if not something very similar?

Well, the helmet, weapon and shoulder pads are different to what we've seen so far

Definitely different - but in a similar style, though. Which bodes well for inclusion of them all within the same force.

My fear was that they would have a totally unique visual aesthetic which would render it difficult to make them fit in. Now it seems as though the Iron Hills and Erebor Dwarves will fit in nicely alongside each other (the open face helms being the most noticeable difference, I think), hopefully there'll be something new alongside the strongly rumored Boar Cavalry - some sort of ranged weapon (crossbows?) It'd leave the Dwarves as a fairly well rounded army list (something the Hobbit is lacking in right now).

I just don't like the idea of boar cavalry.

I don't see this as a massive issue. If I remember correctly there was the Boar of Eversholt which may well have been used as an inspiration for this idea. And I agree with many of the comments about Tolkien not being a Middle Earth purist himself. This is fantasy. Having Dwarves riding armored Boars into battle would not look so out of place. It will give the Dwarves of the Iron Hills a specific image that the audience can remember as well as emphasizing how tough they are as taming wild Boars would be no easy task. They would also be highly effective in combat vs Wargs and it is a fact that Pigs are known to be more intelligent than dogs, and far more dangerous. So I don't feel that the idea is very ludicrous at all.

Guys, I think there has been a massive misunderstanding here.
This is green screen work for a running dwarf. He is not mounted.

Yeah, but still, didn't the Dain actor say something about a boar earlier, or am I mistaken?
