I think that some of the new models look amazing. I really like the palace guard and is seriously starting to think about starting an elven army

I'm hoping for Gundabad Orcs as well next month, Laketown wouldn't be bad either. Please please please in the name of Morgoth let the Gundabad come in boxes of 12.

Bard is most likely going to be finecast since he doesn't have a fancy sculpted base.

Only if GW starts accepting monopoly money lol :)

I'm really hoping for some Gundabad Orcs, I like the idea of a pure Gundabad force (Orcs and Goblins) for thematic purposes

How do you know that? My crystal ball broke last week, so I'm mostly in the dark.

@Orc archer think about it. All the new GW Hobbit boxes are now being released in sets of 10

Indeed, but I'm trying to live in denial for just a bit longer.

Is it just me or are the Gundabad orcs pretty huge? It could be the armour compared to Hunter orcs, I don't know.

Goblin Town goblins were 18, so who knows how many we’ll get in future boxes.

Well luckily my palantir is immune to falling damage :D

GW are bringing the hobbit range into line with 40K which have standard troop boxes at £25(ish(probably will be in the next price rise)) for 10. And I don't see people moaning about buying those.

Looking throug the book, I only see 8 different poses for them. Someone check me on that, but I could see 8 for $35. 40K orks are 11 for $30, so the horde armies are cheaper. 10 Laketown guards for 30 is a reasonable assumption.

I'm not sure where to put this info, or whether it's been posted already, but I thought it might be relevant here.

I was talking to a GW staffer about the Hobbit yesterday, and the topic of Smaug came up. Naturally, I asked him if he thought that there would be a mini of Smaug, and his answer was interesting. He said no, and followed it up with the fact that as part of the new licence with MGM, all models had to be precisely to scale to what is seen in the film (this would also explain the chunky new Legolas). They calculated a Smaug miniature would have to be 38 inches long, and that's not even factoring in the wingspan.

So I'm not holding my breath

The fur on the bear looks poorly sculpted from what I have seen. I'll reserve judgment until better pics are available, but I'm not inclined to buy it if the price is over $25, which it will almost certainly be.

I just can't see them not making Smaug though. It would be such an opportunity wasted on their part in terms of sales. He would be an extremely popular mini without a doubt. Has to happen.

This is what I was hoping for as well with the Gundabad Orcs.

Is it even confirmed that is what they are going to be called? They could be Orcs of DolGuldur and then there will be another set of orcs called Gundabad Orcs for the 3rd film. Probably wishful thinking.

Lego's been calling them Gundabad Orcs, and they actually tend to be fairly accurate regarding names. I don't have the rulebook yet (might be a Crimbo prezzie), so can't confirm.

I don't think he would be that popular. Even if they scaled him down to 24 inches that's a very large mini on the gameboard for just two or three scenarios. Probably around 200 pounds to buy if forgeworld did it, so not within everybody's price range either.

Technically he should be invincible in game terms too. Aside from a lucky shot from a black arrow. Probably not much fun to play with and/or against.

I can't see it happening myself. As I said earlier I suspect GW staff have been told to warn people that it's not going to happen.

Personally I don't mind if they don't. Would be nice, but not essential imo.

Forgeworld won't make Smaug. They don't have the license. Otherwise weathertop would still be on sale.
And lets be fair, GW arn't going to release scale model of smaug, its impractical and 10" longer than a thunderhawk. Now if GW arn't willing to invest in a plastic thunderhawk (which would sell like hotcakes), there is no chance they'll make something bigger for their least popular gaming system.
Our only hope is newline seeing some sense and allowing GW to release the mumak scale version of smaug they have ready...but I'm not holding my breath.
