OK, not exactly an update, just a quick photo to show you the crate I've just made. I only made it as a quick test piece to see how it looked just randomly placed in the courtyard and thought I would add the photo to see what you all think?

I have no idea whats next. By the time I finish this completely I will probably be away again so will no longer have time to do anything for a while. Not to mention the lack of space that I can use here at my house. Think my mum would go mental if I started something else big! Haha :-D especially considering I dont even really have room for this one anywhere. I always wanted to make a helms deep but that would take a lot more room than I have.
Once I get my own place it will be better but for now there's no reason for me to move out as I'm only ever home for about 6 weeks at a time and I'm out the country about 9 months of the year so would be a complete waste of money for me to get my own place just now.

This isnt an update as such, just wanted to let you all know that i wont be able to work on this for a while. Just got a call to go away on Friday so this will have to be put on hold for a while. I will be back for a couple of weeks at the end of december so will maybe get some more done then.
See you all in a while!

Hey again everyone, long time! I apologise for the lack of work on this, I've been away working in the Caribbean for the last few months!
I am however home now and hopefully will be for a while.

I'm hoping to get back into this project soon but am finding it hard to be motivated with it at the moment. I have hundreds of miniatures waiting to be done including many of the old LotR ones that I bought before I went away such as treebeard, mumak and shelob so I may attempt one of those over the next few days!

I'm hoping my motivation for the fort comes back soon as I would love to get it finished and out the way!

So watch this space and hopefully there will be some more updates coming soon! :D

Great to have you back and may I say you poor sole, working in the Caribbean during the winter months.
Good luck with you backlog, I've painted a Mumak so can offer advice when you come to do it. I also devised an authentic way of painting the tusks.

Thanks! It was certainly a fun Christmas in the heat! New year kinda sucked tho as I was working over midnight. :(

Yeah I seen your Mumak a few months back, it was actually that which inspired me to buy one myself! I know there's no way I'd be able to get it anywhere near as good as yours but I might still give it a go! I loved the realism look you managed to get on the tusks but I wouldn't even know where to start to get near that standard. Got a feeling mine will end up looking like a very poorly made elephant toy from about 40 years ago haha

Believe me, I'm fairly ok at painting but it's being patient that improved me. I will have to photos my first figures at some point, the difference is stark. There is tons of advice out there and it's just a case of looking and asking questions, there are some excellent painters on this site alone to get you improving.
As for the tusks I did, they aren't that difficult to do in the end, once again it's the patience thing as they take a little time building up the layers.
I'm pleased my work has inspired you to give it a try, so you know were I am if you need any help.

Apologies for the false hope to anyone who was hoping to see more done to this! Just had a last minute call and I'm now flying back to the Caribbean tomorrow for a few weeks so won't be able to work on this for another small while. :D
I did however find my motivation for it again these past few days so have ordered some more stuff for it which should be here waiting for me when I get home in a few weeks.
I'll have a couple of weeks then to work on it before I'm getting sent to Australia to join a world cruise for a few months :-D so should hopefully get it near to completion in that short time!

So long again everyone! 8)

Hey again everyone! It has been a long while since I was on here but I have just recently returned from a rather long trip round the world! :-D

Decided to try return to this project since it's been such a long time since I left it now!
Spent a small amount of time on it today and finished the initial base piece that the fort is sitting on as I wanted something that it could be sitting out on without it looking stupid, as in the previous photos.

I know some of you will probably want to criticise the environment as it's probably not technically very accurate however I just wanted to have something simple for display. Plus, I have an idea in my head of what I want it to look like when I finally get round to doing the other 2 base levels.
The trees are also not the best they could be as they were just cheap ones I bought in a large quantity on eBay from Hong Kong however I'm pretty happy with how they look on it. I would have liked to make my own but due to lack of time that I ever have to work on this and because of the number that I need I figured it would just buy a load for as cheap as I could find.

Hope you like this small update! Will hopefully get a chance to work more on this over the next few days.

On another note, just want to mention that I got to live out one of the dreams of probably the majority of people here and was lucky enough to walk through the shire in Matamata when I was in New Zealand a couple of months ago :-D safe to say it was one of the best days ever! So if anyone would like some photos for any projects or anything, I have literally hundreds of bag end, the green dragon inn, the mill, all the other hobbit holes, the gardens, the party tree, the path that gandalf rides along at the start of the first movie etc. got loads of photos of everything so just ask if you'd like some! :D

Absolutely amazing! I'm an absolute novice to terrain building and I find this daunting lol

Welcome back stranger, good to have you here again. Yes, I am envious about the trip and to see The Shire is a dream of mine. If I need any reference photos I will be in touch.
The fort is looking great and the trees fit very nicely. You have done a great job on your first terrain project and you should be delighted, I would be.
Looking forward to more updates.
