The hot knife worked well, rocks look amazing. This is really inspiring me to start big scenery projects. Did you need any plaster bandage in the end?

I used a bit around voids in the stair.
I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Size 2' X 2' X 2'
The Second Hall is only 9' wide. The temple of Set model represents a large door. The small doors will also be replaced with something more suited to Moria.

My question is does the second hall need to be as wide as in the Journey Book scenario? I have never played the Bridge of Khazad-Dum
The fellowship starts 12' from the bridge the Goblins can Start as little as 6" away from the fellow ship.

Image

The Balrog will deploy here.
I probably will make the rest of the Hall on a separate board. I don't like to divide rooms. I may put the whole Hall on a separate board.

Suggestions?

Stunning! Unfortunately I can't really help you with your questions, but the work you've done on this board is just incredibly good! The idea with the the whole Hall on a separate board sounds good!

I agree, separate board for Second Hall sounds like a good idea; that way you don't have to divide the hall into two parts. Will you add the chasm at the back of the hall, or will you omit that?

I took the plan to some Play testers I work with sometimes. The Hall will be on a separate board. I do not think I will omit the chasm.
I need to finish up some pink foam parts then finish up with filler.

Jon and Lynn brought back over 400 vacation photos from the Hobbit set in New Zealand so I have a lot to look through. Hobbiton Mill and bridge UHHHAAHA!!

Thanks

Here is an example of the plaster bandage in use. I am going to add the cast rock parts to the bandage.
You could add a bit of filler to cover the cloth texture and leave it as is if you like.

I need to make the buttresses that fit where the columns are standing in next.

I am looking forward to the photos.

I am near finished with the Ruin section. The bottom right and the very top need some work. The stairway will need a lot of work on the left side to blend the edge. There is a lot to do on the right but it is mostly pink foam. It won't take long when I start.

Should have known better moment. I will have to replace the pink foam foundation here too. it is already sagging.

Image

I am trying to decide on the look of the buttresses or columns if I pull them a way from the wall. Re-cutting the foundation from MDF will solve the leveling problem. I had to do that at the base of the stair when I decided to make it 4 inches higher than planned. The top section is 10 inches longer. I am going to make it 4 and 1/2 inches wide in stead of 3"

If I'm interpreting right then the columns will be a tile slab forward and the whole thing wider.
If that's right then I totally agree. To have the space for the figures to move around the front and back of the columns will fit very nicely.
I would suggest a touch more detail around the opening to finish. Perhaps some lines similar to the top of the pillars being cut into the existing frame.

The Door frames?
Image

Buttress, column or half column or even flying buttress :?:
I need to decide on how The final columns will look

Image

I tried a more decorative block for the Door frame. I will try again with a smooth brick. I have some more decorative elements I can try with the columns. I also have the new rune blocks. I need to cast some more parts. The weathered columns are too short and not square. The suggestions have been welcome and very helpful.

The left hand pillar has recessed lines. I'm thinking of duplicating this around the edge of the frame of the top picture. I see this as knitting together better when you look at the finished piece as a whole.
Maybe just try the outer edge first, that could be enough.

This may or may not be a lil' bit of topic but, do you know or can recommend me a good and not too expensive hot knife?

Thanks,
Wiirgy

Is this what you had in mind :?:
I am trying to find a column design for the halls. I will put together a master and make a mold. The press mold worked fine for ruins but is not precise enough for the Hall columns.
