Hello everybody! :-D
I was wondering a thing and I'd like to know your opinions about it.
In The Hobbit book,Fili and Kili die in the end. So,I started think if PJ would have changed it. He made them funny characters and see them die(especially for people who haven't read the book) would be very sad. so,do you think he will change it and will make them live(I think it because he made a lot of changes in the Hobbit,so why not?) thank you!

I suspect that they and Thorin will both go to the big glue factory in the sky, as did Boromir and Gollum. It would massively detract from Tolkien's picture of sadness at the end of the battle of the five armies if he didn't! I suspect that we will see the end of other members of Thorin's Company when Peter Jackson "Ties up" the two films!

I think the opposite of you merry.pippin. The reason they were made so sympathetic and humorous and why they look less dwarfish is to gain more sympathy for when they die. PJ wants to make people cry.

I agree with Gothmog, all the 'Tumblr Girl' fans who sort of bandwagon the fandom without reading the books (nothing wrong with that, fans are fans) all love Fili and Kili because they look attractive and similar to humans, seeing them and Thorin die will be like all the handsome, relate-able people dying, and that will likely have a huge emotional affect on everyone.

This, yet again, makes me stress how important it was for Dain to be established as a bad ass earlier on - I hope that him being crowned comes across as a real silver lining to all the horror of the battle.

I'm certain they won't want to deviate from the books this time round. I mean look at the flack they got for missing Bombadil out, something as huge as those two not dying would be newspaper worthy so in short, I really can't see any other way than to kill them off I'm afraid!

I personally feel that nothing was lost with the subtraction of Bombadil, as its the one part of the Lord of the Rings that is a bit silly! However, the death of Thorin and his line is very much serious and essential to the mood of the ending of the book!

About Tom Bombadil I agree with Bilbo because I think it was not so important for the story of the Ring; then, imagine: the film is very long without that part, then, there is the Extended edition,so it is longer and, adding the part of Tom Bombadil it should have become really boring…
Maybe you're right…I was not sure because, for example, people who haven't read the book and see Fili and Kili like two funny guys could feel really sad.
This is only a supposition I made,nothing more… ;)

@ Merry Pippin change the name of the thread to include the words "SPOILER ALERT"

Back on track, the Tom Bombadil stuff, to me at least, did seem important, it is supposed to signify the strength that can lie in comfort and joy which contrasts greatly to all the militaristic power we are told to fear (or admire) that Sauron, Saruman, and even the good forces are constantly exerting.

OK folks I've added a Spoiler Alert

I reckon they are doomed but in a nice way as they die valiantly protecting Thorin as he is over matched at the end. I hope they don't have a big end to Thorin. I would like to see him taken out by sheer weight of numbers not Bolg and certainly not Azog who shouldn't be there at all.

Quote:
The armies of the free peoples of Middle-earth emerged triumphant. Nonetheless Kíli and Fíli were killed and Thorin was gravely wounded. Before he died Thorin spoke to Bilbo and commended his good character, courage and friendship. With that, he died. He was laid to rest deep within the Lonely Mountain. Dain Ironfoot, the new King under the Mountain, placed the Arkenstone upon Thorin's chest, whilst the Elvenking laid Orcrist upon Thorin's tomb.

PJ changed some things in LotR but I am guessing he wants people to feel attached to all the dwarves and it will be very emotional to see them fall.
I will wager they will take down many orcs and goblins before the end.

I'd be more worried about who else is going to prematurely meet their maker, a la Haldir.

Haldir wasn't a major character, in the books or the films. PJ may have changed alot, but I reckoon he's smart enough to realise you don't just change the death of 2 mains characters.

Personally I feel that Lindir has Haldir/Dak from The Empire Strikes Back written all over him!
