IMO that Uruk Siege Captain has one of the best captain poses around.
Seeing yours painted makes me wanna pick up Isengard again, they've just moved up to second place in my backlog reduction priorities ;P

Great work 8)

Long time between drinks or so they say. I haven't been completely idle. As part of my mission to build the biggest dwarf army on the planet I am always looking out for alternatives to GW dwarfs.

Here are some gamezone dwarfs I just finished. 28mm scale, but while these guys are the same height as GW dwarfs they are much bulkier and have larger heads and hands (about 2x). Nevertheless, these are really nice miniatures (metal) - gamezone produces some nice stuff. Have about 20 of their dwarfs to paint up eventually.

You know it's been a long time since the last update when you have to go back 5 pages to find your WIP thread!

Well no-one liked the gamezone dwarfs :P

So I did some Hunter orcs on wargs for the warband painting challenge. I added extra weapons and bits to each mini.

Thats some amount of Uruk's you've got, very nice. The Hunter Orcs look great too, good colours and detailing. I especially like the orc in the forth picture, very well done.

Great ideas with the rocks supporting the action poses. You made it look like that's how it's supposed to be! However, I don't think these guys are up to your normal standard. Looking back at the last warband you did for the painting challenge, they look alot better imo. (the bezerker warband)

I think what's throwing me off is the wierd pastel puke coloured skin tones, and the fact that they don't seem to have much definition. (the skin, that is) The wargs also seem a little flat to me. I don't mean to jump all over you, I hope that's constructive criticism. 8)

Thanks for the positive comments and feedback.

@SouthernDunedain - I guess you mean the lighter skin tone? (as opposed to the dark flesh tone, which I don't think worked very well). I really like how the lighter skin turned out and will definitely use this method again. I used a white primer, then a 50:50 mix of dwarf flesh and rotting flesh as the base, then just a wash with sepia tone. Really easy and I think really effective.

@the avenger001 - thanks for the feedback. I agree with some of it, but not all. Not sure which skins tones you are talking about. If it's the dark flesh ones (similar to uruks) then I agree with you. That looks pretty Devlan Mud. However, I really like the lighter skin tone and I think the definition here was really good. Wargs could probably do with some more washes to create greater depth - but some had extra washes and I wasn't that excited about the end result. Otherwise I was pretty happy about how the cloth and armour turned out. Thanks for the pointers though. Will help me improve 8)

I was talking about the pumpkin colour skin tones. In the second picture especially the face looks washed out, that may be the flash though on further inspection. Looking again, there is more definition and shadow than I originally thought, though the fact that on first glance they looked a bit flat is telling. (Of course the figures may look better irl, I find that my figures highlights looks fine to me irl, but in the photo's I take they are not that great....) I also think that the fact that I personally don't like the pumpkin skin tone may also have something to do with it. :)

Anyways, if you're happy with them that's what matters in the end.

I could have sworn that I had commented on these. Your colour-palette and painting skills on these are very good, especially the fur colours of the Wargs. :yay:

Thanks Gothmog and JW. :) I tried a new painting approach with these by mixing GW paints with Secret Weapon washes to thin the paints, but make some interesting colours. Some things worked some didn't. I'm going to persist with this method as I think it has lots of promise. Just need to get my technique right.
