Repainting a Mumak

I am planning to do so, probably won't have time 'till summer, but thought I'd ask now.

When repainting a Mumak, should you disassemble it before hand so you can get to all part, even though it would involve snapping it which would weaken the joints afterwards, or should you just repaint it assembled still?

I'd recommend leaving it be. The Mumakil is so big that there's not really that much difficulty in painting it assymbled

If you do take it apart, I would've thought plastic cement would make the new joins (once you've finished and are re-assembling it) just as strong as they were before.

Thanks James, I didn't want to have to, but it would be hard to get to all the howdah-related crevases.

@Necromancer, polycement would melt t back, but it would still snap off, I know from experience that something snapped does not fit so well again.

Well if it was super glued, not plastic welded you could soak it in purple power to desolate the paint and separate the pieces

When I painted my mumak I removed the howdaw and painted it separate.

I have no idea what "purple power" is, but I don't want to take the whole thing apart, just into enough pieces so that i can get in the crevises.

@imrail, ther is a difference between painting and repainting though, but i agree it would be easier, if too much damage wasn't done to the model.

I bought mine 2nd handed, so I had to repaint it.
It was damaged during transportation.
It wasn't much trouble to dismantle it after that

Let's see a quick photo of it's current condition. Check out the amount of glue used, how well that glue worked, how bad is the paint now, is it worth trying to paint match and touch up? There may be a couple ways to skin this cat. Consider all avenues before committing...

I'd like to see how you do. Mine are all unpainted and in various stages of assembly etc...

As it stands, I have 3 Mumakil, purchased first one and glued the heck out of it

. The second one I have, I bought used and it was based coated black, but thankfully only pinned together. My third was an unassembled kit used, it was blissfully spared full gluing and assembly making painting much easier

Thanks, and sorry for the delay.

You can see a couple of pics in my WiP (at the end) but I don't think you can tell from it how bad.

As for 'purple power' mr dunedain, it doesn't look like the easiest thing to get hold of.
