Most of the Founding Fathers had very similar stances on most issues, he's just the one that made the best quotes, although Jefferson came in a close second.

Franklin is stereotypically known for getting struck by lightning while flying a kite.

"Farewell, Prince without a country."
"Farewell, Count without a head."

The farewell exchange of the Count of Hoorne (who was beheaded by the Spanish shortly after for failing to energetically prosecute protestantism) and the Prince of Orange, who went into exile to avoid the same fate.

Hans Wiegel, a corpulent Dutch right-wing politician, met a fanatic socialist politician in a narrow walkway, prompting this exchange:

Socialist: "I don't step aside for pigs."
Wiegel (stepping aside): "Oh, but I do."

"We trained hard - but it seemed every time we were beginning to form up
into teams we were reorganised. I was to learn later in life that we tend
to meet any new situation by reorganising, and what a wonderful method it
can be for creating the illusion of progress while actually producing
confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation." - Petronius Arbiter - 50AD

...and a few not strictly quotes of Computer Haiku poetry .

It has strict construction rules: each poem has only 17 syllables - 5 in the first line, 7 in the second line and 5 in the third line. They are used to communicate a timeless message, often achieving a wistful, yearning and powerful insight through extreme brevity.

Below, the essence of Zen.

A crash reduces
Your expensive computer
To a simple stone.

You step in the stream,
But the water has moved on.
This page is not here.

Out of memory.
We wish to hold the whole sky,
But we never will.

The Web site you seek
Cannot be located, but
Countless more exist.

Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

Program aborting:
Close all that you have worked on.
You ask far too much.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.

With searching comes loss.
And the presence of absence:
"My Novel" not found.

Stay the patient course.
Of little worth is your ire.
The network is down.

This from W.C Fields:

My main ambition as a gardener is to water my orange trees with gin, then all I have to do is squeeze the juice into a glass.

From the Roman poet Martialis:

"You have gold and silver all to yourself, Candidus,
And riches and exquisite pottery,
And expensive wines you have all for yourself,
All you have to yourself,
But your wife, Candidus, you share with all the city."

I shortened the list of things he has to himself, because that gets a bit boring.

Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.

This is a quote from some random and presumably slightly confused person and it made me laugh so...

Winston Churchill is a fountain of these:

Lady Aston: "If you were my husband, I'd poison your coffee."
Churchill: "If you were my wife, I'd drink it."

"Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Not sure who it's by:

“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”

I love this, the 'dance like there's nobody watching' is my favourite bit, i think about it a lot with me being a bit 'different' from everybody i know (read geeky) and it reminds me of the night i met my husband, drunk & dancing. All my friends were doing their 'im so pretty and sexy' dance moves while i was mortal and jumping about, doing all kinds of david brent dance's & face's, locked eyes with him doing the same thing  took him home with me that night & never looked back

Is not a trollop ^^^
