I forgot to mention I liked your sculpted coblestone base. The easiest way to make more would be to make a mold of it. I use instimold and press putty into it.

What is instimold? Is it something that will need to be bought online? Thanks for the heads up because I'm going to need alot of them for my helms deep minis and it takes me a fair while to sculpt. Also what putty is suitable for use, I'm such a noob

I'm liking the choice of colours on the steed and I agree with the previous post that the metal looks good as is.

Eowyn's looking good, the highlighting on the dress is nice, and the skin looks excellent too. I also really like the horse, the colors suite it well.

Thanks Kid I'll definitely be getting that to make timber molds and brick molds for helms deep and goblin town models.

Thanks guys I think I'll keep that black numenorean scheme for all the steeds since it's got such positive reviews haha.

I've been working on Bilbo for my riddles in the dark piece. He should be done after my next painting session so pics will go up then

I've been using it for my Empire of the Dead bases. My orcs are based with rocks and dead grass.

I got around to some painting today, just about finished my riddles in the dark diorama. It just needs some minor touchups here and there, also if theres anything that needs to be done to it let me know.

The painting is fantastic! But for a diorama on such a big base it's a bit empty..
Maybe you could add a bit of Gollum's lake to Bilbo's right? And definitely MOAR rocks

And depending on your sculpting skills you could try to make a few shrooms

It's always about the details ^^

I agree that your diaroma is excellently done, and good on you for not forking out for the overpriced official set, but as Rognarr says, they look a bit lonely on that base all by themselves.

Thanks guys, I agree but couldn't think of anything to put on. The lake idea is brilliant! But the big question is how to do it. Should i just add it over the base to Bilbos right or cut out the sand first, paint the plastic base and add it?

I'd definitely try to remove the sand first, unless you want to make yourself the effort to put a higher layer of sand onto the "non-lake" part. But removing the sand also grants you the possibility to give the lake a smooth design. Somewhere here in the forum was an absolutely amazing thread (which ofc I can't find now that I need it) with pictures of a Moria table which had very black/greenish water.. that's something I'd go for to give the diorama more contrast.

(The boat btw isnt that bad after all.. since it's in the books too

)

That's a really nice diorama! Seeing as have already started I would follow this guide to incorporating water effects into a base. Just paint the base where the water is a deep blue instead of this browny pigment malarkey.

Thanks to the help and advice from rognarr, gothmog and domy I have finally finished my riddles in the dark diorama, I may come back to it one day for touchups but at the moment I am pleased with it.

Next up will be 7 Uruk crossbows led by Vrasku for this months warband painting challenge. Lasttime I couldn't finish my warband in time but I am determined to get this one finished in time.

If it wasn't for the help on this forum my diorama would still be looking quite plain. Even though my scores on coolminiornot are getting lower I believe I've been improving alot and most of it is thanks to the help here. Hopefully I can continue to improve and maybe get my coolmini scores up to 6.5-7/10
