Yeah you're right, I can see it now, the fingers are outstretched rather than curling round. It's just not very clear because he has tiny little Koala paws. Urgh. Yuk.

I'm in the minority in that I like the less uniform, less regimented appearance of the Erebor dwarves, and I think another box of the dwarves in the same armor as the Grimhammers, with the only difference being spears and shields instead of two-handed weapons, would be really boring. I especially like that spearman with the bald head and the red beard. They definitely need a less dark/drab paint job, though.

Men of Dale are cool models, although it's awfully lame to already be releasing models whose rules aren't in the brand new, awfully expensive rule book. Kind of de-values that book, a bit.

Lindir doesn't look that bad to me, other than having kind of a broad face.

Thror is alright, a well-sculpted miniature for sure but he appears to be way too tall, and his legs are kinda spindly. I prefer the older dwarf kings that GW released back during LOTR.

I suppose I can see myself getting some Erebor dwarves, and maybe Men of Dale, but at the prices GW is asking it'll have to be at a pretty steep discount.

I think that they do not mention that he also has a shield because he can not actually -use- the shield, because of his ring giving him fearless, and fearless preventing you from being able to use your shield for shielding.

Makes me wonder though, if you calculate his defence, does it add up to him having a shield or not?

No, he should have 9D if he had a shield.

The new range is just too expensive.
When I got into Lotr a couple of years ago the price seemed about right. Now it is astronomical and just not worth it, I refuse to buy anything from the hobbit.
Shame as I love the figures and the game and probably would have bought all of it if it was 1/2 the price - greed from GWS just means that they loose out on my money.

The dwarves definately don't look as I expected but I think that they are not supposed to be from the time that Erebor stood. I think they are either battle of the 5 armies or just during the Dwarven exile, which if that's the aim I think it's awesome

Also I really like the men of Dale. If you look at the other races in that part of the map of middle earth ie Easterlings and Khandish they fit right in

I think the Men of Dale look good - kind of a cross between Khand and Rohan. They look quite distinctive.

The prices have gone a bit too far though- its the time that it takes to paint things that bothers me most. eg the eagles (which I think are stunning) took me an day to paint each, leaving me 28 days from the month with nothing to paint unless I went over budget! Anyone else get this problem? ie its difficult to get a whole months worth of painting a todays prices!

Definately, fortunately I have been playing the game since day one of the original fellowship release and hav taken a few periods of breaks so I have a large collection of older unpainted units to keep me busy

I really like the Warriors of Dale and will probably be picking up a box or 3. I like that the rules for them are in the box. Hopefully it has rules for a Captain/Hero too.

Separated at birth? The morannon orc is a bit small, but you get the picture.

Seeing the 360 pics, the Warriors of Dale are amazing. Maybe the nicest foot troops GW has ever produced. Unfortunately, also the most expesnive but I can't resist.

Thror looks fabulous as well. Must buy territory here.

I'll likely pick up a box of Erebor Dwarves eventually but many of these models look like men rather tahn dwarves.

The Grimhammer Captain is a complete waste for $15, just as easy to convert one out of plastic. Lindir is ok but doesn't really look like an elf and is boring. Not worth $10 let alone $20.

Thror is a gorgeous model, really love it. Not as loved up about the erebor dwarves as I thought I might be, grimhammers look so much more impressive, even though it was the dwàrves of erebor profiles I was after! Future converting need me'thinks.

Lindir is a bit... Nothing, if that makes sense?

Whilst I never imagined the men of dale to look how they did in movie1, the models are very pretty.

... Ill wait a couple of years till you lot have them all on eBay :D

Do the Erebor shields match the movie? I thought they had a design like the men of Dale, not plain with rivets.

My plan is to buy a box of grimhammers and DoEs, use the spears and shields to arm the Grimhammers proper and figure out a use for the less armoured Dwarves.

You could make them Rangers. And yes, the shields do match the movie.

Wow, my view had completely changed now. Those men of dale are amazing and Thror is simply stunning. My opinion on the Erebor dwarves has improved and Lindir looks fine (but the pose is still dull) but Thror is just wow.

Hhmm... still not impressed =/
Lindir's hand is still a rather bad sculpt and Thror now looks too tall.

The men of dale look REALLY good, but at 4$ a mini I just don't think I could buy them :( . An army of them would be awesome, but you'd probably need between 3-4 boxes which is 120-160+tax :o

Or take two boxes and just ally. I'm not happy about their only being ten in the box, but it does almost force them into being a support force and hopefully their rules reflect that.

If their rules are going to be in the box then how in the heck will the warriors of Dale be playable without ANY heroes to lead them? I am sort of hoping that the soldiers are thrown into the 'army of thror' list for now, until a Dalish hero is released.
