Thnks Rognarr and Harfoot - I just mailed them! I wonder if they'll reply, exciting!

And Harfoot - thanks! The map is included in the Limited Edition Hobbit notebooks by Moleskine; definitely worth buying if you can find one, they're gorgeous:

(I own the maroon one on the left!)

Here!

As I've mentioned before, inspired by some of the amazing Grey Companies that are taking shape on here, I've been working on collecting my own GC and here's 'the first wave' as it were:

Image

Not much progress as of yet, but have created bases for Aragorn (Three Hunters - thanks, Knightyknight) and Halbarad (thanks, Games Workshop) using green stuff and cork, and performed some equine surgery on mounted Aragorn's Brego.

So far I have:
Aragorn 3 Hunters
Mounted Aragorn
Halbarad with Banner and Horn
3 Rangers of the North
8 Dunedain (thanks again, Knightyknight)
12 Rangers

The second wave is on its way, too, and will consist of:
3 Grey Company - love the colours that GW use for these sculpts
12 more Rangers
3 more RotN (courtesy of Thermo - cheers mate!)
possibly some mounted RotN & mounted Halbarad
and ideally a War in the North-Eradan conversion!

This could take a while...

Thanks alot Ste!

Just got a reply from WD:

Hey Matt,

That is a gorgeous conversion of Gandalf and Gwaihir - congratulations. I have saved it in my folder for Hobbity goodness for future use. :)

Dan

Cool :)

Thanks Crucifer and thanks SouthernDunedain!

Finally got started on my Grey Company and painted up these guys:

Image
Image
Image

They're not painted to the greatest of quality, some of the highlighting is a bit sloppy but I'm trying to reduce the time I spend on each single model as I tend to be a bit OCD on tiny details that nobody will notice anyway. I still think they look pretty decent, though, and am rather fond of the colour scheme and weathering.

Shadow Grey (as in the leggins and undershirt) and the darker grey of the cloaks will be something of a unifying theme for the rest of my Grey Company.

Next up: 8 Dunedain!

Thanks Rognarr :D

Swap 'might' with 'will definitely' and thats a bit more like it. Its an incredible model, I particularly love the eagle's head. If you don't win the painting comp then it will require something really special to beat you.

As for the rangers, first class weathering on the cloaks.

My faves, too! Glad you like them, Ste!

Thank you very much, Rognarr - such high praise! :D

Thanks Thermo! I 'borrowed' parts of your colour scheme, thanks for that haha ;D

Thank you so much, Captain! Unfortunately, I don't think I'm gonna win as DMS has an unreleased Ice Balrog that will no doubt look perfect and everyone will vote for :P Ah well, such is life.

And thanks, for the compliment! Weathering's a whole lot of fun :D

A quick update on my Dunedain:

Image

Image

Image

Got faces, clothing and overcoats done this afternoon. Had a lot of fun applying Devlan Mud and other washes to the overcoats and clothing to make them look all worn and well-traveled. The pics are a tad dark so you can't really make it out that well, oops!

The Dunedain are starting to become some of my favourite models, actually. Love all the little details like the baggage and the holes in their coats, excellent sculpts, I WANT MORE! If anyone has any spares, check my trade thread...?

Your Grey Company are coming along nicely! How do you feel about the baloon faces of the guys to the right and the left? I found it horrible to paint:P

Hahaha Crucifer! I thought exactly the same thing! Absolute nightmares to paint properly, which is why I gave one a beard to try and hide his gormless expression! :D glad i'm not the only one and thanks for the encouragement, mate!

PS: Their expression really remind me of this guy:

That eagle is just brilliant. Sickeningly brilliant on new levels...

The rangers are very nice too, and please don't say you've been sloppy when you've got fully painted eyes on foot troops...

Thanks Telchar! And I just like painting eyes, I guess... but I didn't paint any on my Dunedain! :D

Progress on my Grey Company has slowed to a halt as I have recently discovered Lord of the Rings Online! :P I can feel an addiction starting haha. Anyway, thankfully, Thermo recently approached me with an interesting proposition which has kept me off the MMORPGs... for now!

I'm in the process of putting six RotN on horses for Thermo and I started on two today.

Image
Image

Still very much a work in progress - obviously - and it will be interesting to compare these guys with the mounted RotN I made a few months ago...

Oh and special thanks to my girlfriend who saw the legless Rangers' torsos attached to the horses with a blob of greenstuff and said 'they look like they're competing in the paralympics'. :? :D
