So at the end of day one, myself, knightyknight, muppetslayer and gondorian captain are all on 1 win 2 losses. Cereal thief is on 2 wins 1 loss. I have many pics which I will try and upload after the pub quiz.

I'm also sitting on 1 win 2 losses, guess that's the One Ring average!

Far more importantly though I had three great games, really enjoyed them all, particularly the last one where I'm claiming a moral victory, he won on Victory pints but looking at the table at the end I had clearly won the day! Ah well, just the way it goes sometimes! :-)

My mate on the other hand is using pure elves and is sitting on 3 victories, he must be in contention for best Free Peoples....

Our team also managed to win the quiz due, in part, to my knowledge of incredibly obscure Tolkien background fluff which gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside!

All in all, I'm having an absolutely amaxing weekend, it really is a glorious place.

Right, 7:30am, off to to it all again!

Well done and good effort to all who attended. Wish I could have gone, but one ring was well represented :-)

Nice theme song.
It sounds like it was a great time. I wish we had something that big here in Canada.

So basically ToS was great.
I finished with 3 wins with my hobbit evil. Equal to Adam Troke who beat me on sportsmanship nominations by 1 (which came from Southern Dunedain... who was staying in my spare room TRAITOR lol) but we were both beaten to the Hobbit Evil award by someone who didn't have a hobbit evil army... I've made Adam a certificate to give him to correct this error. (same error happened with hobbit good)

Lots of awards for OR and TLA but a few outsiders got awards.
Pub quiz was won by an OR and friends (including Mr Troke) team.

Lots of fun, lots of shinanegans.

I had the worst start to recon possible... which didn't improve over the rest of the game
Turn 1: 1 unit arrives (scribe, who then fails to bring on reinforcements)
Turn 2: 1 unit arrives (Fimbul and a few warg riders, scribe brings on 1 more model)
Turn 3: The other 5 arrive but the scribe fails his courage, I use will and get 2 models

Meanwhile the other side of hte board
Turn 1: He gets 100% of his army on. Dol Amroth n minas tirith. Roughly 1/3bow, 1/3 knights, 1/3 infantry
by the time my army is on he is almost at the half way marker and is already almost in bow range for my army

Then he destroys my army but the end result is just 3-1 in his favour (3pts for breaking me, and i wounded his general for my pt)

Best quiz question: What were the Noldor Elves called in the first edition of The Hobbit?

Well done to Dr Grant for knowing the answer and helping us win the quiz.

Apparently The Proud Feet only got 1 answer wrong on the main quiz but then because of the heroic dice off they lost

Thanks for the kind words Farmer Maggot but it was clearly a team effort, just glad that I was able to use that useless nugget of information somehow!

Also, I THINK, we only got 2 wrong in the main quiz no? The names of Theoden and Eomer's weapons. And considering we put the right answers the wrong way round we really didn't get any wrong, we just put them in the wrong place.

To misquote that late, great genius, "we're giving all the right answers, just in the wrong order" :-)

Just had a look at the facebook page too. It seems that great eagles were very popular, which is good to see. I also see that someone brought two dragons! :D

*Edit* How in the world was this model allowed? I thought 40K parts couldn't be used for conversions for lotr tournaments?

Or was it just that you couldn't have photo's taken of them if you used non-lotr parts? If so, how is there a photo of it?

That's been the general rule I think but I think they allowed it as there's no Azog model yet and someone had been quite creative to include him. I didn't play him but he'd created a fairly fun looking army base on a mountain and had loads of hunter orcs on wargs.

The whole weekend was very friendly and I think they would have rewarded creativity rather than crack down on the minutia of the license agreement. From what I've read online I think Warner Bros/New Line would have had a bigger issue than any of the event staff.

To be honest there were far worst offenders there than that, he was clearly Azog, my mate played an Isengard army where apparently Vrasku was 'played' by an Uruk Crossbowman with a pencil mark on his base :?

Where there a lot of people attending the event? I wish I could be there, leading the stalwart Dwarves to victory (the alternative outcome is not known to the Children of Durin).

53 turns up day 1 and 1 person dropped for day 2.
So good numbers but not as good as the told days.

The largest part were fielding kingdoms of men in some form or Good alliance or Mordor.

They were not fussed about 40k/fantasy parts. I too had fantasy skeleton warrior parts on my bases and no one said anything.
