Hey Folks.

As you may/ may not know, this weekend is the Hobbit ToS weekend. Gamers from all over the UK (and abroad, I know a guy coming from denmark to play) are descending on Warhammer World, Nottingham to try and claim Middle Earth for their own.

These are the players from here who I know are competing.

SouthernDunedain (me) - Fighting under the Red Eye of Mordor
Muppetslayer101 - Fighting under the White Hand of Isengard
KnightyKnight - Fighting under the White Tree of Minas Tirith
Cereal Theif - Fighting under the flab of the great goblin
Dr Grant - Unknown.
Possibly Gondorian Captain (if he can get a ticket on the day).

If there is anyone else, speak now and I'll add you to the list. I'm going to 'attempt' to update this thread with a brief summary of each game as they finish.
There will be lots of picture taking and I'm sure they'll also end up in this thread.

As well as the tournament games, there are also going to be 'friendly' games although I suspect these will be fought harder than the tournament ones

So stay tuned, battles begin tomorrow afternoon. If anyone has an picture requests (eg stuff from the miniature museum) ask here and I'll try get a photo.

TO WAR!

I'm bringing Isengard too. Just finished gluing the grass on my last 8 bases, now off to catch a few hours kip before a half day of work tomorrow and then the long drive North to Nottingham (one does not simply walk there) and a great couple of days away from the real world! :-)

Hope to put faces to (fake) names over the weekend!

Yes there should be a one-ring team song!!! Give us battle report guys and tell us how the food was (I always ask about the food). Good luck to all. If I was still living in the U.K. I would definitely have joined.

I'm sure a song will be devised over the weekend. So it's currently 7.30am and myself and muppetslayer at stopped in services. About half way. So sleepy. Resisting the urge to snooze on the comfy costa sofas.

Wow, you guys are eager! :-)

Are you going to be around at WW tonight for some practice games then? We hadn't decided whether to head over, it'll depend how well our journey goes and what time we get there.

The call of curry may be too strong...

Have a great weekend guys. I really wanted to go, but it clashes with my rugby team's home match against the team that's top of our league, so (possibly stupidly) I've opted for a cold, muddy saturday afternoon trying not to get pulverised by guys who make me look like a hobbit. It's going to be a bit like Balin's Tomb...........They have a cave troll.

I'm really looking forward to seeing blogs (and Bolgs), photos and batreps.

And here I was thinking that GW was looking only to gain whatever profit from lotr exploiting the movie.
I really hope to see more of these events and at last some more attention to the sbg.

Really hope it's not just wishful thinking but they will actually resuscitate the hobby

It's a very strange thing to say but I was at the Doubles last year and considering you're at their HQ, the size of the GW shop and the souvenir shop in the bar, I genuinely felt there was little to no pressure to sell you stuff.

It's almost against every other product/decision they make but these events really do feel like hobby events designed to make people have fun and to socialise, rather than sell you the product. It's the reason I got into the hobby in the first place 20 years ago and it's nice to see that there's still that small bit of the original mentality in place.

All that said I'm almost certainly going to be picking up that lovely Direct Only Goblin King while I'm there, it'd just be rude not too!

Highlights of day one for KnightyKnight!

Been rendered speechless upon entering the Holy Gallery of Miniatures.

Having Citadel Guard with spears being used as darts against Faramir by a Troll Chieftain.
As a result, Faramir spending most of the game lying on his backside.
Denethor going mad for the first time ever, twice in a row.
Denethor bursting into flames due to a certain magical orc. Near enough to his real end in my opinion...
All Warriors of Minas Tirith holding the objective running away, bar one.

Not the best of starts I admit, hopefully a better day will be had when tar real games start tomorrow. However, my elves fared much better against Muppet's Angmar army...

In the second turn a group of Galadhrim archers let loose a hail of arrows, slaying a cave troll instantly.
Barrow-Wights using the Force (Paralyze) to pull eagles down from the skies above, leaving them easy prey for....
....Gulavhar, who seems to have taken a liking to chicken/eagle!

Plenty of pictures taken already, though they most likely won't be posted until Monday evening.

Our Friday was less productive but no less fabulous....

Got to Nottingham around 6pm, signed up to some reward scheme at the hotel that got us a free drink at the bar, headed to local curry house. Ate curry. Headed to cinema, watched the Hobbit again and headed back to the hotel for a nightcap. Thoroughly enjoyable evening, all within 5 minutes walk of the hotel - HUZAAH!

Quite what it's done for our chances over the weekend though remains to be seen....

Good luck tomorrow guys!

I envy you lot! The game mimicking the movies is one of those funny little twists that makes the hobby all the more amusing for me.

Good luck team One-Ring...

"One Ring will rule them all, in Nottingham we'll find them,
To Throne of Skulls it brings them all, from the board that binds them.
From the One-Ring forum, where the Shadows lie..."
