Galadhrim swords

Hey there i was wondering if you guys think it would be okay me glazing my galadhrim swords with guilliman blue glaze. I like the thought of a blue glow to them much like the effect on the films with sting. I know very few elvish swords glow blue when orcs are nearby but i think it will go well with my blue theme but was wondering if you guys thought it a bit too un-tokeiny.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Do it!! I used to do it with my old 40k way back. It can look great.... or tacky but tacky fun

Imagining something and seeing it right infront of you is entirely different. I suggest you do a test model on an old model you dont mind experimenting with.

I think it would work, but it's up to you. Do a quick test, and see if you like it. It wouldn't take long to repaint one sword if you don't like it. (You could also go for a more subtle approach, I think tidoco (and other awesome painters) mix a tiny bit of colour into their metals to get some variation....)

I've done a test model and it is nowhere near as blue as that serpant guard as it is a silver/metal sword just with a blue glaze so it is only a hint of blue...

The wood elves of the hobbit are mentioned to all have swords glowing blue with hatred for the goblins, so it wouldn't be un-Tolkien at all.

Model wise, it seems like a great idea, but to make it seem like glow, you'd need OSL.

Object source lighting. Painting on the effect that light sources have on their surroundings. Ie: a guy carrying a lantern in the dark. The lantern shines on part of him, and not on others. And even if he has green clothing, it will look yellow from the lantern light.

Yeah i am with you, just the abbreviation didn't sink in... long day.

OSL is a bit above my painting skills so for now i have just glazed them blue so a very faint tint of blue on there...

glazes are to bring out colour, not really for a wash, shades are what you're after, used drakenhof nightshade on my armoured glorfindel armour and sword and looks great. the sword is a dark blue only because of the shade. use the old asurmen blue wash to get a lighter colour.

I tried the drakenhof but didn't quite get the look i wanted, perhaps using the drakenhof and then glazing but work better?
