So whilst in Games Workshop yesterday I glanced at the Mines of Moria box set and said off-handedly to the manager that I suppose they'd all be removed soon with the arrival of The Hobbit. Understandably he said he couldn't say anything for certain, but he'd keep me posted.

As it happens I've just received a phone call from him - he's had word this morning that all boxes have to be returned tomorrow night.

I assume this is the same for all GWs, not just my branch, so I thought I'd throw this out for everyone. If you want your Mines of Moria box sets, get them quickly!

Why wouldn't they just let them run out of stock?

At my local GW I was told that all the box sets were being sent back to be repackaged to add the "The Hobbit" logo.... That's why I had difficulty finding the Minas Tirith Commander box set....

I reckon there will be a The Hobbit box set very similar to MoM, but instead of The Fellowship it's be the 13 Dwarves, Gandalf and Bilbo and instead of the Cave Troll it's be the Goblin King and perhaps Gollum.... Maybe :?

Yeah they're being removed from the shelves tomorrow.

The plastic they can re-use and the paper parts can be recycled too. I don't imagine they have a huge amount of them in stock anyway

It still seems to be available on GW website (for about 25% more than independent sellers such as www.greendragongames.co.uk !)

Shortage of plastic goblins?

And maybe they also don't want the old MoM sets compete with the new, more expensive starter set.

This isn't unusual to see one starter set make way for another in the same range. In 40k battle for macragge was pulled to make way for assault on black reach.

Will probably be removed from GW site tomorrow alongside store removals. Yes, we still have MoM stock (2 of them in fact) but once they're gone thats it as I found out today stockists are unable to order MoM! Thanks for the mention though =) - I'm holding off on the full re-launch of my LotR range until I have verification on what GW are doing with in a week or so.

Also said information on Hobbit logo on all items sounds about right, as the upcoming release is "massive" and "not just one box set, much much more than that" - I look forward to it! Also just over a month til the film too!

Man this is going to be sweet. I wonder what scene they will take from the film to make the starter set?
