Nope, no mention at all. It would look funny but besides that... Mounting dwarves on boars is so alien to Tolkien's world it's almost an anathema. I never really mind PJ's alteration and addition to the story of the LotR but straying so far off.. Plus I think it's a certainty that GW will come up with regular warriors on boars whether we see them in the movie or not.

Why does everyone make the connection between Dwarves and Boar Riders? They are (as Constantine said) an anathema to Tolkein's world, but this game does them, as does Battle for Middle Earth 2, and apparently GW/PJ too? I don't get it...

I think they confuse LotR Dwarves with Warhammer Orcs.

BfME2 didn't have boar riders, it did give them great beasts, but that's very different.

That was mentioned in the Hobbit Annual 2013. On account of the axe fragment lodged in his head.

So when are pics going to leak of the new minis? Can't believe nothing is out there yet. Dying to see what things look like.

I'm going to optimistically guess around October 20th in November's WD.

I agree. I was hoping for something earlier. If I recall correctly, I had the first sets of LOTR minis in September/October of 2001. I remember buying the first boxed set around then. The Two Towers boxed set was around November I think.

Bolg played by Conan Stevens who was previously The Mountain from Game of Thrones.

Note, this is not from my own photobucket album so hopefully the pic doesn't change into something inappropriate over time.

this has me seriously worried!

the massive overuse of bone, skulls, mad hair and oversized spikey weapons just seems to reek of warhammer to me :o

PJ, I hope you know what you're doing :o :?

I thought Warhammer also when I saw the pic. Not that I think the Warhammer look is necessairliy a bad thing, but the Lotr films established itself very different from the rest of fantasy franchises, especially with the orcs. Besides I don't think this pic represents the polish look that Bolg will be in film. In production videos, they state everything is a lot more colourful in reality for purposes of capturing the right tones on camera.

First impression had me worried too, but then I remembered that the colours will be toned down on screen. Furthermore, I think It isn't unacceptable to have him be 'royally' overdressed. His leadership over the goblins came naturally (unlike Gothmog for example) so he must've been pretty insane to gather armies as big as his.

I bet it took him about 4 hours everyday just to get into that outfit and another 4 to get out. Even if they only filmed for 5 minutes, lol.

To quote Malcom...."I'm fairly alarmed here"

Image

That comes from http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:JAlbor/Hobbit_Game_Designer_Haden_Blackman_Interview. I signed up as interested in the Hobbit: Armies of the Third Age game and got a blog post about it rolling along. That was one of the pics. :(

I just need to keep reminding myself that Hobbit was a lighter story than LotR, and have faith that PJ will not screw up too bad. But I have to say I'm going to go into the theater with pretty low expectations at this point. I personally am NOT a fan of the oversized weapons, mass-skull decor and similar traits commonly associated with camp fantasy stories and WH games. Middle Earth as he gave us in LotR felt very real. I'm getting worried that Hobbit will just feel like another blockbuster film and I'll be going back to my Rankin/Bass DVD for a version that cares about the story. :?
