I thought of an idea where there are 6 objectives (3 facing opposite each other) on a board. 3 are owned by good and 3 are owned by evil. Both sides must secretly write down what objective it is (clearly stated, like middle fountain ect...) Since they are 3 possibilities there must be a lot of bluffing (such as placing very little troops on your real objective to conceal it's value) and only when you have captured an objective can the person reveal whether or not it is the real objective. There is a turn limit so armies must be able to react quickly.
What do you think?

That sounds awesome! Did you happen to get that from a Risk variant?

I play wargaming with military miniatures and for short games, I mainly do objective point based games rather than actual historical ones which can last for days. As long as you and your opponent agree on the ground rules, such as keep the objective points equal for both sides and equal distance between objectives, it should be fun. Another element to think about is the number of figures that each side has -- if you tie capturing of the objective marker to the #of figures within X distance of the marker itself at the end of the game, it can be an unbalance game. Meaning, you may opt to choose # of figures over expensive hero figures for a fixed point game. Anyway, have fun with your game however you choose to run it.

Callan

Risk is a board game using small pieces to represent armies. The board is a map separated into territories that the pieces move around trying to dominate the map.
There are many versions of the game.

For instance the original is taking over the world.

But there are many other versions; ranging from the French wars, Star Wars, even Lord of the Rings!

Hope that clears things up. I like your ideas for the secret objectives. Very clever. 8)

It can work very well. I had run an event of three linked scenarios for SBG a number of years back. One of those scenarios involved trying to recover an item. If I'm remembering how we did it, several small (infantry) bases were placed by the people setting up the boards. On the bottom of these were numbers 1-6. At the start of the scenario the player with priority would roll one die and that was the objective they had to reach. However, neither player knew which hidden objective had that number.

They not only had to reach it (base contact and then a Str test to dig it up) but had to carry it off their side of the board.

Some players spread out to cover multiple objectives at once but sacrificed strenght. Others grouped up so they were searching slower but were in a better position if they found it to protect it. One player (lots of Orcs and Warg Riders) even sent small parties to search near by objectives but hung back with the wargs to try to steal it from the Good player if they find it first.

I have also played a few cardboard counter boardgames where each side had a small table of scenario objectives. Before play you would roll on this table and right down what yours was. In this way neither side really knew exactly what the other side was up to and therefore couldn't work directly on opposing it.

In SBG you could do something like this by having bonus objectives that give some extra points at scenario end. Such as "get at least 10% of your force off the opposite end of the board", "slay enemy leader", "kill opponent magic users". You can get really creative with these. Each player rolls for theirs and writes it down and then you play your game as normal. At the end of the game you show each other your bonus objectives and decide who was the overall winner (scenario objective + any bonus points).

- Challenge the enemy's leader using your own hero. (In WOTR for example, but SBG would work just as well)
- Clear all 'selected terrain pieces' of any enemy troops.
- Kill all cavalry units.
- Choose one race and exterminate it. (Racism much? :D )
- ...

OR

Extremely specific ones:

- Awaken the Balrog using the moria drummers. (no idea how that would work but you can figure something out)
- Make sure your own hero dies "for the sake of the greater good" or whatever. Something like certain SHIELD agents. ;)
- Kill target group of archers, but take on alive for questioning.

Things like that. It can be as crazy as you want I guess. I'm really liking where this thread is going so I'll be following this.:D

I'd like this idea for a multiplayer game. There would be an winning side, plus everyone would have a specfic objective

Some ideas from my end-

Kill more Evil models than the Elf/Elves

Quietly kidnap the Ringbearer to take him back to Minas Tirith

Kill the model with the highest points cost on the board

Kill the biggest monster on the board

Kill as many enemy banner bearers as possible.

Ensure Arwen dies so you can become Queen of Gondor (Eowyn)

Cool! I actually tried this out a few days ago and it was really fun. I want to expand it with your suggestions where the secret objectives are not just about taking land, but also killing heroes.
