With finecast it is not too bad, but for other companies the paint peels off really easily and is very annoying. How do I stop this? I've heard you can either wash off the oil (how hot water, and will it ruin detail?) or prime it with gloss (will it be shiny?)
One of the first manufactures of resin models recommends vinegar. It was a good tip. I have never been able to get the mold release off of Epicast in one try. For really difficult stubborn cases float the oil off the model in soapy water and vinegar. It could take a week. I use a paint bucket and a cheep kitchen strainer to keep the miniatures from floating to the top with the oil.
No need to use hot water. Warm water will be fine.
Hot tap water will reform finecast.
