Now, I'd love to see you tackle this guy again that you've mastered the art of sculpting!! :)

Yeh, I could even make a new model, and call him 'King of Old' or 'Ancient King' or something.

Thanks. I still have a way to go to reach the top tier of sculpting, but I'm happy at the rate I'm improving at.

Fantastic sculpt Dave!
Seeing your work again, it reminds me to the other giant I still have to paint (he's undercoated though!) ... and the painting-article for the trees...

I saw that in the Tomes as the latest article, but it says I don't have permission to read it.

It's not approved yet... (it's not finished either...) but I wasn't aware members were able to see what articles are in progress... hmmm :dizzy:

Somewhere in the dim, fetid recesses of what passes for a memory, I seen to recall Anarion being fond of using an axe. Or am I just imagining that? I am sure that he would have excelled at many weapons but I just get this nagging feeling that he was noted for his chopping skills.

UKFB is a marvellous sculptor.

Yes, I think you're right, Dorth. Were the Argonath not mentioned as having axes?

You have most certainly come a long ways with your skills. Both in sculpting and painting. 8)

Cheers 8) . Still plenty of room for improvement in both areas though. :)

Indeed, The (Book)Argonath did have him with an axe. Something to consider if and when I get around to him.

Words...fail me... :) Amazing work Dave! I love everything about him! Are there any secrets you can share with us about the process from skeleton through to armour? Like how many layers he is built from? That sort of thing. Can't wait to see what you're working on for DMS next! :D

Wire skeleton, bulked out roughly, balloon style muscles added, Skin layer added, Head sculpted, Feet and hands done, Rock lumps and cracks added, loin cloth added, Ropes etc added, Final touch ups. Done. Unfortunately I didn't take any Wip pictures of this beastie. I have a few of the next project though.

The next model is interesting, to say the least. :P

Well by now most of you will have seen the Mordor Uruk that I made for DMS. No step by step pics but here are some of the prepainted shots:

I've also had to do another commission recently in partnership with DMS. This is a reposing of the Glorfindel model:

I've since strengthened the join where the sword meets the hilt. The mini is now going to DMS for painting, which is why the quiver and shield are detachable to paint those hard to reach places before assembly:

I have to admit the chainmail isn't the best I've done. This is what happens when you try to do it into a big mass of soft putty. Usually I would wait and put a skin over a previously bulked out area, which results in more control and less softening of details as it cures. Time was of the essence here though, so it had to get pushed on in one go.

I've also done a little more to the dead cavalry mentioned on the previous page. More on that hopefully later in the week. 8)
