As I said in Kev's thread, brilliant sculpting Dave. I'm a big fan of your sculpts and this one-off commission does not break that trend. Good job!

Aye, I agree with the above, you've done a fantastic job of sculpting it. I really like it, it's probablty the bestt one you've ever done, and definately my favourite. Only matched by DmS's paintjob Good job :yay:

Amazing!! Tell me, why don't you make more Giant for us? I think many of us would want one.

I'm sure. But you would all want one for around £30 and it just would not be cost effective to mould, produce, and package them at that price. Plus it would not be fair for DMS to fork out for the initial commission fee only to see much cheaper reproductions appear shortly afterwards.
DMS doesn't simply buy mini's from me, He basically hires me to labouriously create spiffy miniatures for him that no-one else on the planet own. A unique piece of art if you like. You will have to ask him of course but I think he understands just what skill, time, patience and effort is required to produce scratch sculpts to a reasonable standard. And that is why commissioned pieces appear so expensive when compared with factory churned out castings.

Purchasing a mini, and hiring a sculptor to create one for you are two quite different things I hope you'll appreciate. :)

Hi ukfreddybear, i've read all your wip thread and really love it. One question I have in mind from some time, it's why you prefer pro create to green stuff. Could you tell me pro / cons of pro create ?
Also another question: how long did it take to you to finish the stone giant ?

Thanks for the comments guys.
Procreate and greenstuff are very similar to sculpt with. The only difference I find is that PC is slightly easier to blend in and smooth than GS. A bit like the difference when spreading margarine on your bread compared to butter.
Off the top of my head it was 7 months or so from placing the order to getting it shipped. It didn't take that long of course, but I had two jobs for most of that time and I had very little spare time to get the sculpting sessions in, which I usually do for about two hours at a time. I suppose maybe 20 sessions were done over that period.

Wow, outstanding! I'm guessing it's inspired by the war in the north stone giant? Picked it straight away due to your fantastic sculpt. Truely amazing art

Ha, I just noticed that many of my old projects are available to view over in the TLA archives. Some of those are shocking, but I'll post the links anyhow to show that in the space of 5-6 years you can become quite proficient in something that you weren't awfully good at to start with.

Here s a picture of my first major conversion. Anarion. I've come a long way since 2005 thankfully.:dizzy: Just look at this fantastic cloak sculpting. We all have to start somewhere. 8)

Even though the '05 Anarion isn't a masterpiece you can certainly see that your attention to detail has always been there...honesty, he is one very well put together idea!
Now, I'd love to see you tackle this guy again that you've mastered the art of sculpting!! :)

Your sculpting is first class. It's actually nice that you are producing one-off pieces that become truly unique works of art. Very inspirational. :yay:
