So after a 10(?) year old break I'm back to painting..

A test scheme for my uruk hai troops: (though it's unlikely I'll be able to have the same colours next time, since I wasn't taking notes), but I got carried away..
His teeth are like he's been bitten by a mad dog and got rabbies, but i think it was my fault when I was clearing the mould lines..

And my first try with Greenstuff on Gandalf the Gray.. The sculpting on that plastic model, was pretty bad in the hat/hair area, so tried to make it look a bit better..
And well I had to try out that Greenstuff thingie :-D

It'll propably take me a month to find some time to paint again, but oh well, I'm back in action :D
(any tips, suggestions, mistakes you spot, you are welcome to comment on them, there's always lots of room for improvement!)

Skin tone on the Uruk is spot on, so is his armour.
Give the teeth a devlan mud wash... thats the only suggestion I can make :P

Luckily all my fellowship models are metal, that plastic Legolas... blegh.

Good work with the green stuff and on the Uruk-Hai, although you appear to have missed a few areas (gloves, right leg, flesh on arms). Other than that, it looks better than GW Uruks! 8) 8) 8)

I'll try that in the morning!
The bad thing is that I think kinda "leveled" the sculpt while trying to clear the mould line.. If devlan mud wash fails, I'll try to sculpt it a bit..

Kinda liked the plastic Gandalf pose more than the one in metal, but as far the sculpt is concerned, metaal all the way! though im very eager to try that new finecast models

Thanks a lot :)
Everyone said it is hard to do a bad paintjob on Uruk, so I figured they would be cool models to get be back in the hobby and keep morale high!

It's still a test piece (well the most succesfull out of 3 test pieces actually as far as armor colour was concerned), so I tested a bit of the skin/leather colours aswell.. now i gotta go over my pallete and remember which colours I mixed, so I can finish this Uruk, without looking like he's mutating and paint the rest of my Uruk's

And I also need to do some research about the gloves/swordguard, can't understand which parts are metal and which are cloth..

Greenstuff is pretty challenging, still reading on how to properly use it without making a mess :P

 I didn't realise he was a test piece, should have read the first bit, but I was too busy looking at the awesome Uruk :D

After 2(!) months, I finally found the time to finish a mini!

So voila my finished Uruk:

Image

Front looked too dark so I tried a different setting on my camera and back turnet out too bright

Also I made a "wet-pallete" since painting in Greece during summer is almost impossible..

Image

I took one of the plastic containers that came up with BGIME mags, rolled 2x spongelike things (we call em Vetex here) and you put "a special paper you use while baking/cooking"
Made a great difference, the paints of the pallete stay moist for a lot of time :D

Great looking Uruk there - the armour is particularly well done! Must be nice to have sunshine to warrant a wet palette.

Youu areee maaay sunshine
Well stuck in the city with 36-38 degrees is hell, near the sea it's a whole other thing, but no holidays this year for me I'm afraid..
Even my uruk looks like he got sunburned in the 2nd photo
But can't really anything bad about the weather here, wouldn't trade it for another place :)

Next project is a bit of free hand on the shield and I've started priming :sam: first time I'm trying white undercoat, we'll see how it turns out..

You don't need warm temps to enjoy the benefit of a wet palette. If you don't have one, get, (or better yet, make) one.
And nice uruk their whatevier.

Some progress on :sam:

Took me a while to decide a base colour for the cloak.. went for 50-50 mix of Codex and Fortress Gray.. good thing now, I know what my highlights and shadows will be..

Undead eyes

Image

My first try on painting eyes/pupils.. turned out pretty ok, right eye looks a bit bruised but I'll touch it up tomorrow when I'll have more light..

Image

I should also do something with his mouth, it's got almost no expression, I want him to have a "FOR SHIREEEE CHAAAAAARGEEEE" expression

More progress on Sammie..

Touched up his face..

Image

Painted his cloak.. was going for a greengray at first, but i really couldn't make it work out.. Need's some touch ups aswell, but I'm pletty pleased about it..
Started painting all the stuff that he carries in his back, trying a bit different tones of brown so they don't look all the same..

Image

Also a question, I want to weather the bottom part of the cloak.. should i try drybrushing or washing it?
