I admire the wings aswell, it's original I think since I haven't seen it done yet this way.
You made it look like the flames of fire are crawling over the wings... waiting to burst out in some fury...
Well done mate!

The Prancing Pony: very neatly done, looking forward to seeing more of it soon
Balrog: that's cheating! You just got Durinsbane to pose with a giant hand!

Hmmm... was it really this long since I did anything LOTR?! Eheh! What a slacker!

Anyway, this evening I started a Gandalf for the current Painting Challenge. I picked the one from the Khazad Dum boxed set... you know, to go with the Balrog, assuming I will ever finish that model.

Here's how it is at the moment:

This is one of the best Gandalf sculpts, and a scene that stands out for me. I thought Ian McKellen deserved an Oscar for his perfomance in FotR, and it was the battle on the Bridge of Khazad-dum scene that summed up his portrayal of the wizard. Exhausted, battleworn by encounters with goblins, betrayed by Saruman, worrying about the Fellowship's mission, and now he faced an opponent more or less his equal in power as both are Maiar. He was sooo angry, and that really comes through in the vehemence with which he bellows 'You shall not pass!'
Mac - wonderful. Simply wonderful.

Thanks guys!

I think this is one of the best minis that GW ever produced. Very dinamic and full of character. The quality of the sculpt is stunning.

I did a bit more of work on it this afternoon.

Yellow and Purple are complimentary colours. If you put something yellow near a purple thing, it will look more yellow than if you put it next to an orange, red or green thing.

The purple in the shadows makes the face (yellows and yellow-oranges) pop out more, imo, wich is what I want.

I am quite fond on how his sword turned out. He really looks tired from all those battles.

Colour theory... Interesting... You should write an article about that Migsy! I've always considered it as being useless... but now you prove the opposite...
It doesn't change the fact that I hate you though... for making such a fantastic entree into the challenge! :x

eh... 8) :yay:
