Special Painting Challenge: Command Group!

Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the March Painting Challenge!

Rules

1. A miniature is decided upon before each monthly painting challenge. This month is the third 'Special' Painting Challenge where instead of a single miniature being chosen, a theme is chosen. This month will be a command group themed challenge as voted for by the community.

To enter this month you MUST have a Captain and at least 1 of the following; Banner Bearer, Hornblower, Drummer (Drummers in Moria's case), Taskmaster, Dragon Knight, Shieldbearer, Kings Huntsmen, Knight of the White Tower or Shaman (War Priest) - max of 1 of each. The new Command models will also count, as shown above. If you really want to include a named Character that fits in properly with the theme, you can include one instead of the captain or as well as.

So the Maximum for Minas Tirith would be a Captain, a Banner Bearer, a Hornblower, a Knight of the White Tower and Boromir, Captain of the White Tower (or another suitable substitute such as Faramir).

If you are unsure as to whether something will be elligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature/s you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature/s 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of March 31st, 2012. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. In previous painting challenges, the winner and runner-up recieved prizes in the form of gold coins, however with the websites current situation, gold coins are not available to give as prizes, so no prize is available at the moment.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

6. Please only post a maximum of 10 images for your completed entry (increased from the usual max of 4 images due to the amount of miniatures people might be painting this month). In the voting thread next month I will only include one of these photos along with links to your other photos so please also include a group shot of your command group.

Good luck to all!

Can a named hero (eg Amdur) be painted in place of a captain?

For example, I have an Easterling Dragon Knight, Banner Bearer and Amdur, but don't own a captain, nor can I afford to spend $70 on a command set just to get one.

I have a primed Elrond and this old bard miniature, who might make a good Elf musician if (green)stuffed into a cloak or elven armor. Would this be acceptable?

That's what I was thinking, in the style of the Wood Elf Sentinels. Two of which in the pic are ladies, btw :) .

They have male heads but female bodies. Take a closer look at their chests Chris.

An absolute lack of command models means I'll have to pass on this one, sadly.

Yeah that's fine :)

A couple of rule changes for this challenge (and this challenge only):

1) A named hero can now be used instead of a captain (or you can paint a named hero as well as a captain still)

2) As most of you are going to be painting several models, the max amount of photos for the final entry has been increased to allow you to get good shots of most of the models in the command group. In the voting thread next month I will only include one of these photos along with links to your other photos so please also include a group shot of your command group.

Can't wait to see these entries painted - I plan on converting two/three Warg Riders to command models - a Hornblower, Captain and possibly a banner. Will also have to get Gothmog (foot and mounted) and the Mordor sourcebook. Watch this space

Sacrilege loves Justin Bieber

EDIT: or maybe not, just found out Warg Rider's can't have War Horns :(

@Red Corsairs: is it alright if I give a Warg Rider Captain a horn and say he's a hornblower, as normal Warg Riders can't have horns in the new profiles, or should I just leave him out of the photos/group photo?
