Well let us know the details of your purchase DMS when you get it. Was Hithero's just plain bad luck? I think Harfoot said he had much of the same problems with his model he purchased.

It's a shame really, the Gorgoroth Beast was one of the new releases I really liked, though wasn't planning on getting at full price. Now with these defects, it's truly not worthy of the full retail price. GW should definitely lower they're prices as someone mentioned before, by 25-35%.

I thought FineCrap was suppose to be the saving grace for large models where people mentioned they preferred this resin over metal. While on foot miniatures are preferably metal and plastic because the resin is still too brittle with some bubbles.

I do hope GW gets their act together, or maybe not 'cause I'm hating, in improving the quality of their product. Smaug might be the only model I'm considering getting at full blast, but not if it has distortions such as the ones seen in the OP.

I am no longer shocked! As a M.E. fan I fear we won't be able to get quality models from GW again. That will be a shame :!:
I am moving a new load to the new house. Hope to have the shop set up so that I can work on some new things. No point beating a dead finecast beast.

Well there you go...

GW has some nerve towards their clientel.

I don't have to no longer be a paying customer to be on this site bashing this awful ridiculous company on their poor business methods. It's my right of freedom of speech. Sorry if I'm peeing on fanboys here, but even most of the fanboys, which includes me at one point, are getting sick and tired.

And believe me, bashing GW is constructive. It teaches them we (the consumers) are not going to be played for fools, their business will go down in flames if they don't get their act together on how they run their business. The fanboys that jump for joy at everything GW does are the ones that are bad for the quality of this hobby. Just please the peons that are easy to entertain and sap them of their income with no complaints from them.

It won't be !!! I'll have them open every box in the shop until I find one that I'm confident I can put together without too much trouble Exactly as I did when I bought my first finecast model Gulavhar - took 3 attempts to find one I was happy with.

Get them to slash the price in half if you can DMS, if you end up with a majorly defective model, unless of course you don't like manipulating a model back together in hot water. HOT WATER!? Geez... that's exactly what GW is in after this debacle.

Such a pity, i've never had any problems with metal (except when they sent me the wrong item), but 2 out of 2 problems, with the big monster having a very big problem. You bought a ragon didn't you, that wasn't awful was it?

@DMS, I will do from now on, I didn't want to open a box in the store before but will now, and the model in the clampack's faults were covered up by the other half which was ok (they tricked me)

You can still open up the clampacks in store and check them over before you leave - at least then if there is a fault then you don't have to make the trip all the way back to the store to exchange it. I will NEVER buy finecast without checking it, Nothing against GW I just don't want any defective miniatures in my collection ... simple

TBH I didn't believe FC would still be bad now, I thought since Greast Beasts and mt Amdur were made for FC they would be ok. Thanks anyway, now I know what not to do if I do buy that Warg Marauder.

I have a War Marauder, the Goblin King, and the Spider Priest. All the details were fine except for the paws on the warg. I didn't return it I just repaired it myself with slight amounts of green stuff. When I buy the larger models I too will be opening them in store.

It is not advanced modelling skills putting resin in hot water it it?

I would not think so but I have been building kits for 50 years. I would not think a 12 year old would have the experience to correct a problem as large as the example. I do not think it is reasonable for GW or you to expect any customer should have to.

Yes FineCast is expensive, but no one else is making these models, if you dont like then, DONT buy them.

I have to agree .

So, How is this constructive?

It is much more enjoyable reading posts which constructive and informative.

That is certainly true. Please include in your explanation of how to reshape finecast products some facts like the temperature of the water. Define warm vs hot. Explain how to prevent the clamps or rubber bands from distorting the details. Explain why in your universe a hair dryer or heat gun will not work as well as water. If the hot water will burn your fingers so will hot air

Well lots of comments on this topic, the water is hot water from the tap, so you still pit your hands in it, hope that answers you question.

By the looks of it you will never get a Gorgoroth straight from the box to fit together, so except the fact you have to mould them together in hot water. I am going to glue mine later and will post a picture of the finished job.

There is a few small holes but a bit of green stuff will fill them.

I am not up for knocking GW but i am shocked they don't mention the hot water system in the instructions like Forge World do.

Seriously i would fully recommend this model, its beautifully sculptured, but everyone asks me why i have a Rhino!

Yes I have and not intentionally. I'm just hoping it will not melt on me come summer time. The model was pretty good, the bubbles showed up on areas that didn't bother me too much. So it's possible to have an actual FINE CAST model and not Finecrap. But I wouldn't say my Dragon was 100% flawless in its mold. Then again neither is metal, but metal doesn't claim to be Finecast at a "premium" charge.

Well i have now glued the Gorgoroth and filled the small gaps with green stuff, the biggest gap is on the monsters right hand side of the face were it joins the horn, but easily filled.

I honestly used more green stuff in the metal Balrog and metal Dragon. I find with large models resin is a much nicer material to use, glues easier and less gaps

Note small holes in above photo next to back leg, filled with green stuff

Now to getting around to painting it.

The reason they are warped is when they are pulled from the mold, the resin mixture is warm and not fully set, so will warp when pulled out, same with Forge world things too.

Just tried to assemble the Howdah, be prepared for bad fitting as well, another part that will need placing in hot water to bend to shape

Did it, in the end i heated the Howdah on an electric radiator which made it nice and soft, placed it over the beast and held it in position for 5 minutes while it cooled.

Was it worth it, yes.

Should GW do better instructions, oh yes!

Yours is looking good now, mine was (by which I mean is) beyond the point where it fits together no matter what is done with it.
