For those of you who have read the GBoG profile in the WD, any idea why the beast has a shoot value? Is it for the rock that one of the orcs is holding? Hmmm... Also I hope they give him a hero commander like the Mumak. Seems he would be a bit vulnerable without might.

All but one of those orcs are archers, I assume they all use the model's shoot value for simplicity's sake.

It is not a hero, in the example army in the WD it was in the same warband as the nazgul and you can have only one hero in a warband.

Does the one with a spear actually spear support for the beast? I read the WD but it didn't say.

The orc with the spear is just driving the beast. I don't believe he has any attack of his own unless the best dies and he survives the fall - then he can fight with his spear.

I wasn't saying the beast was a hero - I was saying you should be able to have a special hero that can sit on the beast to drive it and use might points to allow the beast to make heroic moves etc.

I don't think this is the case because the beast's shoot value is worse than the orcs'. No where else do riders on a mount become worse archers - it would be easier to shoot off the back of the beast than a horse or a warg!

The spear looks too big for the orc Spear to use imo.
I think its going to be like Crude Throwing Spear where it cant be used if dismounted.

Nope, not according to the description: "The Great Beast of Gorgoroth consists of the Great Beast itself, an Orc Warrior rider with a spear and nine Orc Warrior passengers with Orc bows."

Well the beast definetly has no range attack so it must be an error, or the orcs have some disadvantage. maybe the beast isn't as stable as the other mounts? I agree that the orc with the spear has no shoot value and is simply the 'commander' even if they are no rules for a commander.

Thats because it needs to reach down the Beast's back.

I'm interested in seeing that. I would also like to see a size comparison of the Beast next to a Dragon or a Mumakil.

If you want to make Grond, you'll need 3 or 4 of these Gorgoroth Beasts pulling it. I guess no one here would know if they made rules for Grond in their new Mordor sourcebook huh? That way we could just wait on a model to be released.

If I had money to blow away on such a project, I would just end up getting two Great Beasts, use the orcs and howdahs for Grond instead.

The wargear states it is a spear - even though a long one. Presumably it can be picked up and used as a spear. Just use a spear-armed model to represent him. It doesn't matter if the size does not match.

It cost less than a cheep set of golf clubs. You will find that there are a number of members that have large forts.

When I see the model I will decide how many I want and how to build Grond. I am not sure I like the one from the movie.
