How to remove paint?

Is it possibly to use metholated spirits on plastic miniatures?

Don't know about that, but I use brake fluid to strip paint from my plastics, works like a charm.

BUT be careful, brake fluid isn't the most "friendly" thing to use, neither to you or to the enviroment.

And I would recommend using a test-miniature first, as I have heard some brake fluids are so powerful that they actually dissolve plastic aswell, but with most brake fluids you can leave your minis in it for as long as you want. (Although anything from 1 hour to 1 day should do the trick)

I have not read through the entire thread, but I use Simple Green to strip plastics. It's environmentally friendly as opposed to brake fluid and has a slight pine-scent to it. I've left a plastic model in there for a week with no damage to the model.

I use dettol and it's a wonderfull product to get rit of paint (for plastic and metal). Sometimes the basecoats are a bit hard to get off - but repeating the process and keeping them in it long enough might help that.

DeadLurtz, I regularly used methylated spirits on plastics and works fine with no effect on the plastic, just make sure that it is methylated spirits and not white spirit. white spirit is no good. But methylated, go right ahead and use it. ok?

Ok, I'm feeling more keen on using methylated spirit. I think its, in overall, better both on plastic and on metal, quick to use, easy to get my hands on and effective by what you say!

Denatured alcohol or methylated spirits

These are very POISON . MEK has been known to cause liver cancer in small animals that walked by a sealed can. :lol:

Did I mention it dissolves plastic that why it is in a metal can.

Sorry, I left out Explosive but that is on the can. It is fuel so we know it is very flammable.Brake fluid(methylated spirits) is in a plastic can most of the time so read the label.

For stripping metals try nail varnish remover, works for me every time - never tried it with plastics tho.

Quick advise is that what ever you use wear gloves either marigolds or surgical gloves as all these spirits STINK!!

simple green has a pleasant scent to it, but it will dry out your skin rather quickly. I've used it on metals and plastics (only with GW/acrylic paints though) with great success.

Old topic I know, but has anyone tried Dettol Antiseptic Liquid for removing paint? I'm presuming the Dettol previously mentioned is the disinfectant.

I'm using Sainsbury's pine disinfectant atm which barely has any effect at all on plastics and cleans metals a bit with a lot of scrubbing. I saw this antiseptic liquid being used on youtube and it looks like it cleans up plastics pretty well. I've got literally loads of metals and plastics than need stripping right now.

Anyone tried it?

Dettol works fine - just leave them in long enough - and make sure u put somewhere where there is enough fresh air ( it smells).

Which Dettol product did you use though? The Disinfectant or the Antiseptic Liquid?

From what I've seen on youtube the way to do it is to use the antiseptic liquid undiluted, soak the models for 24hrs and the paint should come off quite easily. I was hoping someone could confirm that the antiseptic liquid is the right product before I buy as I've got no use for it otherwise.

Great thanks, I'm pretty sure thats the antiseptic liquid. The chloroxylenol is the important ingredient I think.

Yours that you posted in here came up quite nicely so I think I'll give it a go.

Oh right if u work long with it - gloves are pretty handy - caus it's not so good for the skin.
