Viewed all 4 parts, definitely amazing. Though call me crazy, I would rather play it in SBG format except using the movement trays for movement and breaking off when combat begins.

I thought the main orc forces were undersized though. The Rohan reinforcements looked just as numerous as the main orc force, or it's just me?

EPIC! This is what WOTR was made for! You could have never done that with SBG. I now take back anything bad i said about WOTR. I love that Minas Tirith as well!

Pretty sure people have done it before with SBG, it would be just longer and more tedious to carry out, lol.

OK, all 4 of those links take me to part 1 of the blog and I don't see anyway to get to the other 3 parts.

The pictures I can see look great. It is for battles like this that I started playing wargames.

On the right hand side of the page, there are dates like July and such. i believe parts 2-3 are in July while part 4 is in August. Hope that helps. :P

^Yep and on my CPU the links are overlapping the large photos so it's a bit difficult to navigate through, but you'll figure it out ForgottenLore. Maybe I'll just link the photos of those Frenchies right here on this site. So that the rest can view it right away.

[Gasping for air] Too many photos, I'll just edit this post and place the links of the other articles instead.[/Gasping for air] Does anyone know how to put clickable thumbnails 'cause I'm pretty sure the photos are getting cut off here on the forum post.

Yes you can catch a glimpse of the "Ainur" in the background.

Nope the links to the other articles don't work, they just end up like the OP's, back to the 1st article:
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate ... md%3Dimvns

http://translate.google.co.uk/translate ... md%3Dimvns

http://translate.google.co.uk/translate ... md%3Dimvns

I'll put a shortened version of the battle instead.

Nice!

Im sure people have done this with SBG before but the things that make SBG likeable (such as the ability to make different formations and have "holes" in them that you can exploit ect...) become rather insignificant with such huge battles and takes far too long in my experience.

You missed some... :P Lol well done, the photos don't overlap for me (you might have a smaller screen?)

Also the battle reports are accessed on the right-hand side under June, July and August. I just can't get enough of that Minas Tirith, looks great fun!

That is a decent sized scrap (translation: battle). The Minas Tirith model is a reasonable representation for a game though I prefer taller walls so siege towers and Grond are the only way in for the hordes of Mordor.
Rohan appears to be mostly infantry... well, PJ changed the script so our Gallic friends are perfectly entitled to try other variations - it adds a bit of spice to the game and makes for a bit more uncertainty on either side.

Brilliant.

While we're looking at Pelennor Fields I found this on google: http://lostpict.6sided.net/2011/09/30/b ... tr-lunacy/ It isn't a battle report but has some good pictures.

Few Samples:

Can't get the images to show here unfortunately.

I am definitely no fan of WOTR but I can see its utility in the large field action outside the city walls. The actual escalade though cries out for SBG. The sight of movement trays teetering on curtain wall towers looks rather odd and detracts from the grand spectacle. Desperate fights at the top of ladders or across the ramps of siege towers, with Heroes agonising over when to use their Might and counter-attacks into the siege towers themselves, or delaying actions as the defenders fall back behind bolted doors along the ramparts - these are impossible to achieve with the more abstract nature of WOTR.

Of course I'm biased - I've taken my SBG Pelennor Fields participation game around the north of England, and used the Warhammer World Minas Tirith as well - but I think that the escalade could have been pretty much ignored for this battle, and the city of Minas Tirith simply become a backdrop. The huge number of troops is very impressive, although WOTR is so brutal that many won't be on the table for long! As with many of these large games the crucial factor is to ensure that you have enough experienced players available. One or even two gamers moving that lot would slow things down considerably (and the bickering between co-commanders is the best part of multi-player games!).

For what I posted? The blog isn't actually focused primarily on the battle, mainly on making it do-able. From what I can gather it was using SBG and the good forces won.

These were the forces used, quoting from the blog:

"Good:

Minas Tirith Garrison – Beregond, Pipin, and 417 Warriors of Minas Tirith
Gondor Cavalry – Prince Imrahil, 13 Swan Knights of Dol Amroth, and 18 Knights of Minas Tirith
Rohirrim Cavalry – 105 Riders including Théoden, Éowyn, Gamling, Éomer, Erkenbrad, and Captains
Army of the Dead – King of the Dead, 6 Riders of the Dead, and 97 Foot
Artillery – 4 Trebuchets and 5 Bolt Throwers

Evil:

Morgul Vale – Witch King on Fell Beast, 3 Wraiths on Wings, the Dark Marshall on Steed, 11 Morgul Knights, 9 Black Numenoreons, 12 Morgul Stalkers
Harad – Serpent King, 22 Raiders, 52 Spear, 36 Archers, 2 Mumaks
Easterlings – Khamul the Easterling, 12 Kataphract, 40 Phalanx
Mordor Orcs – 170
Mordor Uruk-Hai – Shagrat, Shaman, and 40 Warriors
Morannon Orcs – Gothmog,3 Captains, and 44 Warriors
Wargs and Riders – Shaman, Warg Chieftain, 2 Captains, 66 Warg Riders, and 5 wild Wargs
Trolls – Chieftain and 8 Trolls
Artillery – 2 Catapults and 2 Siege Bows (and a number of non-crewed burning engines)
Siege Tower, Siege Ladders, 2 Battering Rams, and Grond"

Missing some main characters but I've haven't seen too many pictures of battles on this scale.
