On the trample phase the rules state that if the Mumak ends its move on top of a formation, the formation must make a fall back move in an attempt to get clear, and any companies that fail to get clear of the mumak's base are ground into the dirt and destroyed. This brings me to my question, what if one of the companies that couldn't get clear of the mumak's base is the command company, containing an epic hero, it that hero also destroyed along with his company?

I would say that command options would be crushed because it is the command company, however an Epic Hero would probably move to another company. On the other hand, the rules appear to suggest that the Hero would be killed. That probably just confused you, sorry, but the rules don't actually say. I am just going to check the FAQ now, feel free to do so as well.

As it happens it isn't mentioned, if I were you I'd PM ForgottenLore as he may know more.

Hmmm, I seem to be developing a reputation. Don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

As for the question, I am not sure, but I am having a hard time imagining a situation where you couldn't get the command company out of the way, I'm sure it is possible, but I doubt it would happen very often.. It works like a charge so you have a "spearhead" company that moves the rolled distance and then the other companies get up to twice their move to form up around them, so if it looks like a problem you pick a different company to lead the rout and the command company has (probably) at least 12" of movement to get clear.

Also, keep in mind the "Redress the Ranks" rule on page 40. So after the companies move, the command company automatically shifts to the front center company, which should be the furthest away from the mumak.

So, I don't really know, but I doubt it will be much of an issue, if the formation is positioned in such a way that you can't get the command company out of the way, I think you have bigger problems. My gut reaction is that the intent of the rules is that the command company is ALWAYS the last company to be removed as casualties, but I can certainly see an argument the other way as well.

I agree w/ FL that everything GW has in the rules to date puts the Command Company to be the last removed. This doesn't always mean that Epics are always safe since there are times (especially in Cav formations) where you may have to have Epics in something other than your Command Company. But the Mumuk can be seen as a possible exception. Still, I doubt any decent player would leave a situation where their CC was the one under the Mumuk while basic companies escaped. There are always possibilities but still...
