I would also be tempted to give them all helmets ans shields as well, but you may need that mould to do thatt.

The key is to make sure that it is absolutely, crystal clear to anyone looking at your army that the Blackshield (and prowler) formations are different from the regular goblins in your army, that is what the rules require.

To avoid arguments and just generally be polite, they should be correctly armed (ie, blackshields should have shields, armor and hand weapons, prowlers should have 2 handed weapons and no shields).

Right, I must say that I do appreciate all the advise guys, thank you so much for your time, another question though, is there anything you can buy to help with the conversions? Or is it just a matter of time consuming work of green stuff?

I'm pretty sure you can just make it yourself using modeling putty, can't you? Design the shield you want and then impress it into some unhardened putty to make a press mold then work from that? One of my mates did that with High-Elves to convert up some Cohort.

Not that I advocate loading up on Blackshields over normal Goblins, mind.

he doesn't advocate blackshields over normal goblins because he likes playing fair, and if you want to buy that mold:

What do you mean? Why would it be unfair?

Because they worth 30pts but only cost 20, if you're using masses of them and not even paying for official metal ones it is unfair.

I wouldn't say unfair exactly - because that might indicate talking about what others do, and not what I'd do.

To be clear - my position on this game is that some things are just "too easy" (and that list is growing, look for my next batrep, where I almost can't look at myself in the mirror after using 'wings of terror') and I find a lot of the list advice to just hone in on the under-costed stuff to be a little silly and counter-productive. It is counter-productive because it magnifies existing inequalities in the lists and a basic principle of any game is that the outcome needs to be somewhat uncertain. Who really enjoys watching or playing in a completely lop-sided sporting match? The game works pretty well, I am sure we all fancy ourselves as pretty clever players. So just because there are 'no-brainers' in the list, it does not mean we have to take them. Why not enjoy the tactical possibilities this game provides on the table? WOTR is actually a pretty good modern war-game afterall.

YMMV, of course. :)

Despite the fact that it your not breaking any rules.

It should be noted that some LotR players have a much stricter interpretation of WYSYWIG than is present in the warhammer games. You should definitely be aware of what your most common opponents opinions are on subjects like this.

Yes, blackshields are undercosted, but so is a lot in this game, we just have to deal with it. I don't complain about one of the guys in my group converting Arbalesters from Corsairs and Haradrim, or the Angmar player painting up High Elves fromt he last alliance box like ghosts for his Spectral Hosts.

but still, the attitude is out there and you should be aware of it.

@Xelee - Well said.

Since when were Spectres overpowerd?

Oh, and I mostly agree with you.

I was just commenting on the use of proxies and conversions.

What actual physical fig you use has nothing whatsoever to do with how that unit performs in the game. It shouldn't matter whether you are converting powerful units or weak units.

Now, if someone wants to complain about someone USING overpowered figs, that I can understand and is probably a different subject, but to complain when someone converts a powerful unit so they can save some money but be OK when someone does the same thing with a weak unit is just hypocritical.

Sorry, not hypocritical, just a double standard. It's only hypocritical if it is you who are using the weak unit with converted figs.

Ah, that is where the difference come in, if someone wants to use something overpowered, make them pay the full price or they can't use it, if not then its just cruel to them.
